As for trump not ratting immediately, I think that's more of a head in the sand type deal. He might have suspected it, not outright known about it, but decided not to go out of the way to involve himself. It's not moral by any means, but considering how powerful epstien was, I could understand it being a tactical move. As it is, I really don't think trump did anything heinous and illegal involving epstien. He might have done scummy things himself, like banging hooked or whatever, and he was absolutely in the same social circles as epstien because epstien inserted himself into those circles. Hell, maybe Melania was trafficked by epstien and trump had no idea until he found out, I dunno. Fact is, at least the way I see it, is that they have nothing credible on him and had to make shit up via Russiagate and they had to try and kill him, which seemed to have brought him in line. If they did have something on him similar to severity as epstien, they would have released it. The fact they orchestrated the lock downs, tried to kill him, and they cheated a national election tells me they don't have the dirt on him so they resorted to cheating, economical manipulation and bio-warfare, and threatening assassination. His first term was pretty good, and his second term is nothing like the first. He isn't like himself. Makes me think they threatened him somehow, because he isn't the trump from the first term.
