I had graduated right before the 08 crisis and I couldn't get promoted, transfer or get a decent position at work. That was due to company politics. Couldn't get another job outside of work because of the crisis. Eventually get promoted at work after years working there due to manager flying my promo under the radar and the planets aligned correctly. Work a few more years and try to go up the next ladder because of more BS. Get another job and work there before getting laid off. Eventually get hired back again for a different position. Get laid off before COVID. Get laid off again during COVID. Get another job eventually and just got laid off last year. Another problem compounding it is the boomer mess I have to fix. I have saved a lot of money but every time it looks like things can go forward I get laid off, or the cost of living sky rockets.
