Spetsnaz already tried to take Antonov airport in Hostomel in the first few days of the war and failed. All they ended up doing was destroying the only AN-225 plane in the world as an act of revenge against Ukraine. If they captured that airport, the war would have been over quickly and it genuinely would have been just a few days long. They're not nearly as competent as their reputation would suggest

Hostomel was a combined Spetznaz and VDV operation. And they got their asses kicked. Spetznaz may not even exist any longer after the losses they've taken, at least not in the form they used to exist

> According to leaked U.S. intelligence documents, multiple Separate Spetsnaz Brigades suffered devastating losses, with some units losing upwards of 90% of their deployed active personnel in the early months of the 2022 invasion

The amount of damage Putin has done to Russia will be hard to recover from by whoever comes next. He should have just taken Donetsk and Luhansk and said, ok we win. And ended the war then. They won the Battle of Mariupol, they were objectively winning in 2022.

Now Ukraine is striking deep into Russia with drones on a daily basis, they're about to start building their own Storm Shadow cruise missiles after UK + France gave them the blueprints. They're destroying a new Wildberries warehouse pretty much once or twice a week. Moscow residents are worried they're going to get droned while they're asleep. Shit is absolutely fucked for Russia.

So because it's not from RT, you refuse to believe it. Ok Ivan, thanks for your worthless contribution. The original source is here: https://archive.is/o3NIb

>The documents do not say how many spetsnaz troops are estimated to have been killed or wounded in Ukraine, but the materials, citing intelligence intercepts, assess that one unit alone — the 346th — “lost nearly the entire brigade with only 125 personnel active out of 900 deployed.”

>U.S. intelligence analysts tracked every spetsnaz unit that returned home to southern Russia from Ukraine — except for one: the 25th Spetsnaz Regiment. Severe personnel and equipment losses, the documents say, “could explain why there is no clear [intelligence] signature of their return to garrison.”

The hostomel operation was done by the 31st VDV brigade, with some help from the 45th spetsnaz brigade.
You fucking nigger, it's been five years, we know a *lot* about that operation at this point.
>The Russian side began immediate preparations for the landing operation at Antonov Airfield in Gostomel on February 22, 2022. On that day, forces planned to participate in the operation were deployed to the Gomel Oblast in Belarus. A group of approximately 30 combat helicopters of various types arrived in the Khojnik area in southern Belarus: Ka-52, Mi-35, and Mi-24 helicopters belonging to the 17th and 18th Army Aviation Brigades, as well as Mi-8AMTSh transport helicopters belonging to the 319th Independent Helicopter Regiment. They were landed in a field east of Khojnik, just off the P-35 road to Brahin. Simultaneously, on the same day, a group of approximately 20 Mi-35 and Mi-8AMTSz helicopters belonging to the 17th Army Aviation Brigade and the 319th Independent Helicopter Regiment deployed to the Velikii Bokov airfield near Mazyr (51.984684, 29.1622974). Although there is no evidence to support this, it can be assumed that elements of the 31st Air Assault Brigade and the 45th Spetsnaz Brigade, scheduled to participate in the operation, also arrived there that day in a group of vehicles. Soldiers of the former unit were likely stationed in a large field camp set up in a forest 4 km north of Chojnik (51.958890, 29.977420), while soldiers from the 45th Spetsnaz Brigade combat group were stationed in a tent city set up near the Mazyr airport.

Russia doesn't have a unit such as SAS, KSK or Delta Force. The best equivalent they have are internal FSB units which handle all terrorist threats. There's a number of articles about their (somewhat failed) missions inside Russia. You must understand their heritage are the KGB CT units who were trained with Soviet logic, meaning you're nothing special, just another comrade, and you will do exactly as told by your superior. Coincidentally their fighter pilots operated the same way. All Su-27 and MiG-29 pilots were controlled from the ground or A-50s. They had no independent decision making. Western special forces like the SAS and MACV-SOG were always very independent and in fact their selection course was always done alone, not as a unit like some gay Seals do it.

Yes they do, it's called 'A' Directorate of the FSB aka Alpha Group. They are who people mean when they say Spetsnaz, which just means all special forces in Russia.

I believe I wrote internal FSB units? I also wrote about it's heritage being the 1970s KGB and the reasons why the alpha group is nowhere near the SAS, KSK, or Delta Force.
I also wrote there's a lot of articles about their somewhat failed missions.

>The group was instrumental in the Russian government's attempts to forcibly bring an end to a series of mass hostage crisis incidents, in which groups of Chechen and other separatist militants took hostages. These events took place in Russia's southern territories near Chechnya as well as in the Russian heartland, and were made up of the Budyonnovsk hospital hostage crisis in June 1995, the Kizlyar-Pervomayskoye hostage crisis in January 1996, the Moscow theatre hostage crisis in October 2002, and the Beslan school hostage crisis in September 2004. Each of these high-profile incidents resulted in hundreds of fatalities and injuries among the hostages and, with the exception of the Moscow siege, significant losses among the unit's personnel.

This is nowhere near SAS or Delta Force.
>>
>>541428641
you're talking about CCO (or Special Operation Forces), these are elite structures.
Spetsnaz is wider termin which includes Rosgvardia, OMON, marines etc.

I hate to break the hollywood movie and podcaster specop bro illusion for you, but the main difference between a normal grunt like a us marine and most special forces is simply access to direct support, being able to operate outside normal chain of command, and actual assignments. sure, they're better trained, but they aren't supersoldiers. most are roided up with shit cardio. they are transported and/or infiltrate into specific areas, the task is much more streamlined. if you think every single delta or sas is john wick, I got some bad news. most are still shooting the same thing the average 20 year old marine was... a raghead with zero body armor or good training.

Thanks for the correction, I didn't know Spetsnaz included the Rosgvardia as well as military and FSB units. The equivalent of the SAS/KSK/DELTA (being part of the actual Army) would be Special Operations Forces as >>541429026 stated. so they do have an equivalent.

>>541428992
Also, every single hostage situation that Russia faces is tens, if not hundreds, of armed suicide bombers. This is not what the UK, US or Germany faces when dealing with hostage situations. Most tend to end peacefully or there aren't enough terrorists to cause mass casualties before the special forces have done their jobs. For example, the Iranian Embassy Siege had 6 terrorists with handguns and the odd submachine gun. The Kizlyar–Pervomayskoye hostage crisis had ~250-300 terrorists armed to the teeth with heavy weaponry.
>>
>>541429309
Spetsnaz is just a generic term for special forces. It's not that it includes Rosgvardia, it's the Rosgvardia has its own spetsnaz units, which in that context means swat teams. Pretty much every Russian law enforcement agency has some special units.
>>541429469
This is true - our boys at Delta, etc are very good, but we are all very lucky they haven't had to deal with anything like the Moscow theater siege or Beslan. Absolute nightmare scenarios.
>>
>>541429216
>I hate to break the hollywood movie and podcaster specop bro illusion for yo
You don't have the first clue of what you're talking about. First of all the Russian Alpha group, that these newfags claim have a similar role to SAS and Delta, are internal FSB units. They only operate within Russia. They're not military. They're somewhat equivalent to the FBI HRT but suck ass.

SAS and Delta recruit from the military and the selection course is done alone. It's one of the most physically and mentally demanding course but the emphasis is on individual decision making, which none of the KGB derived CT units ever did. SAS and Delta are damn near super soldiers. Did you even know that the M4 and H&K 416 were developed by Delta? They were the first to mount red dots on CAR-15s and their input on the latest military rifles has been very significant. They were the first to write their blood type on their body armor. They have developed a shit ton of modern small infantry tactics nowadays used by tier 2 units. They are the R&D of the army.
>most are still shooting the same thing the average 20 year old marine
There you just ousted yourself as someone who doesn't know anything.

Would you like me to explain you newfags what the Alpha has done famously wrong in the past? Just to name a couple, they never establish a secure perimiter. This is the very first thing you do in any hostage scenario. They use absolute shit tier tactics like using gas and sending in the intervention unit while no hostages have been even killed yet.

I don't believe their selection emphasizes independent decision making. They follow shitty orders from some political careerist who doesn't know what he's doing. The Delta and SAS also have orders but it's up to them how they execute the operation as they're the R&D of the army and nobody else have that tier 1 knowledge. But whatever, you brainlets are just gonna keep arguing. Maybe I'm not interested in telling you more.
