China supposedly has a ton of people even if you don't count people who left, and then you are told the majority live or move to the cities, and then to avoid crowding they built more cities but they are mostly empty ghost cities.In my experience in Beijing the crowds were only bad during holiday when tons of people came from outside the city, and during commute times on public transportation. It doesn't seem that full. Then in Chengdu, it definitely is not full. I'd even argue because people order delivery instead of going out or older people don't go out much could be a reason but it still feels empty. I can't explain it personally It's just far less crowded than other places I've been to, Seoul is a nightmare for example you'll never be awau from people. Cities in China feel small. Majority of people are in cities for work.

When you get to some tier-3 cities and lower the population numbers start to seem a bit dodgey, but I think it's because of big municipal limits and emigrees to big cities that didn't update their residency.Now, if the big cities account for migrant workers, but the small ones count them too, that could be a problem! Not sure how it works but I didn't get this feeling that China is empty in the big cities.

There is no way that Russia's population exceeds 100m. It was 145m in 1991 and they still claim that despite millions fleeing Russia for 35 years after the end of the USSR, the super low fertility rate, aging population and one of the lowest life expectancy rates in the world, and at minimum 1 million war deaths.

That's why their inner city life is dying even faster than e.g. in Europe or America where once flourishing shopping malls struggle to survive. Nonetheless at the right times you can see masses of Chinese in the inner cities. I don't actually think their numbers are inflated. India on the other hand is severely undercounted. They still birth at home in the majority of cases and their bureaucracy is extremely dysfunctional.
