One behaviour observed among intelligent people is the capacity for defiance, going against the grain. People of lower intelligence generally speaking do not behave much different than intelligent people in their everyday actions and interactions. However, an intelligent person will be the first to question authority, norms and behaviour of other people. Conversely, its the people of lower intellect that have a tendency to be exploited by the system. People who are willing to accept stagnating wages, put up with deteriorating living standards. Intelligence has also a social aspect to it. People constantly conform their behaviour to the norm, which by many here is considered to be a cattle behaviour. I believe the connection between intelligence and contrarianism to be more nuanced. Socializing is a form of collective intelligence. If the poor strata is being taken advantage of, it will try to adapt a strategy of contrarianism. After all, if all changes to the social contract are detrimental for this strata, it will start to oppose changes to the contract at every turn.
