It's not my problem. I'm not having kids, so I have no stake in the future. I'm a mercenary who will help whichever political group most aligns with my personal interests for the here and now, which is mostly just making myself as comfortable as possible until I die. I want to get through life doing as little as possible and reaping as big a reward as possible. Which isn't really unique, I'm just very upfront about it and don't have anything to distract from this goal, like a family. Since I'm white, male, middle class, and straight, and work for a living, I don't get anything for being a supporter of the Democrats, or the progressive wing of politics at all. They're not going to make me safer or richer. They expect me to pay ever more taxes to fund their programs which will not benefit me at all. And they will more than likely erode whatever safety and privilege I enjoy in this country through "racial justice" initiatives. I've already seen the way that goes in various African countries. The minute it starts in the US, I'm going to be looking for a place to move to. So if I want to pretend like I have a say in mainstream politics that just leaves Republicans. Except, I don't really have anymore in common with the Republicans than the Democrats. I do have some things I agree with, but then there's all this extra baggage, just like with the Dems. The only difference is, I actually do benefit somewhat from the Republicans' baggage, as a straight white guy. That's not to say the Republicans are my friends or allies, because I think they're mostly scumbags who try to screw over the working class as much as they can get away with. It's just that the Democrats racial baggage is WAY more terrifying to me than Republicans' corporate cronyism and Christian moralizing. When I was poor, maybe I would've signed on, out of the desperate hope for a change. When you have basically nothing to lose, risks like that are easier to take. But now I have stuff to lose, and I'd rather not risk it for a reward I won't even personally enjoy. I just happened to be born into a dark time when Jews are extremely powerful and influential in my country, and I don't have the necessary connections or resources to change that. Perhaps, in the broad sweep of history, this is a temporary state, and the Jews will fall from power someday. That sounds really rad. A shame I won't be alive to see it.So I just work within the system to make myself comfortable, and ride it out.

This is largely true even if you acquire great wealth and keep using it for practical improvements: transferring money is instant but the actions that are funded will take time. We can succeed where many past generations failed. There's much that can be done. It's just a matter of enough people going the distance.
