Why does Russia seem a lot weaker than they were in ww2 in terms of global military might? I’ve been watching some ww2 docs lately and Russia towards the end of the war were absolutely steamrolling doing what Germany was doing even better than they were doing it in their prime and now it appears they’re in a years long war with Ukraine and can’t really manage to make something of it despite it being at their doorstep and far away. Are they holding back forces in case another nation gets drawn in or what? In videos being released you only see groups of 3-6 men and maybe 10-15 in bigger groups but nothing like the scale of what you’d imagine a full on Invasion to be.

The people knew they were the ones being attacked, and the external pressure thus kept the society together, moving people to push themselves to and beyond their limits, purely because they felt it was right. In such conditions mobilizing enough resources for a steamroll is impossible, it wouldn't be just shooting yourself in the foot politically, it'd be straight up shoving your own head into a guillotine. The european support has given the ukranians similar strength to russia and the EU is playing the same dumb game of chicken escalation. Add to the fact that the entirety of russia is a fair military target while a missile or a drone strike from russia in the netherlands would wake everyone here up to the 'real' threat of russia instead of pretending ukraine is fine and winning and in need of critical military support.So, a difficult geopolitical situation and there's another jew in the middle.

They were being exclusively fed and partly armed by the US. Read up on Lend Lease. And with all the American food, nearly every Soviet could either be a soldier or work in a factory for the war effort.

The drones only seem significant because there’s like 12 people fighting at a time.
