Iran has proved something truly catastrophic. You can actually survive the full might of the US as long as you have enough balls. Americans dont have the political will to put boots on the ground and assume massive casualties nor to just drop a nuke and upend the post ww2 geopolitical order.The US got baited into this mess by Israel and it can't get out very much like Russia in Ukraine. The moment this war stops Iran will speedrun nukes (they might get to them anyway even with constant bombing) and the whole construct of Israel + American vassal states in the area will be absolutely cooked (Iran has no real reason not to threaten nukes unlike major powers since they have nothing to lose in terms of international relations).The US will be forced to intervene and physically disable the Iranian nuclear facilities with a ground invasion or nuclear attack, but either way its gonna cost them. And it might still not stop Iran. Fascinating times.Really the key mistake was the same as in Afghanistan: they assumed Iranians want to be Westerners. Pro tip they don't.
