A Duke University study funded by the US Navy used 40 pigs. They were sedated, fitted with custom heated diving suits (with hoods and diapers) and put through simulated 1 hour dives to 61 m / 200 ft equivalent pressure. Half breathed heliox the whole time and the other half switched to an oxygen + carbon tetrafluoride mix near the end. After the same ascent rate:Over 80% of the heliox-only pigs died within 3 hours from severe DCS (gas embolisms, paralysis, hemorrhaging, inability to walk, etc.).None of the gas-switch pigs died; they showed fewer bubbles and less impairment.Survivors were euthanized and examined.Why not just experiment on non white prisoners from Guantanamo bay? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rGtAbOPAENE
