I would tend to agree with the good Professor. The US debt just cracked $40T and rises at $10B each day. The US is paying $2.5B each day in just interest. That is impossible to turn around.Maybe a full reboot where you have proper sectors to your economy with industrial manufacturing right up to financial services. The US became full service business and financial services only while they outsourced all manufacturing to the far east. Since 1971 manufacturing has been on a steady decline in the USA. If you don't build anything or have the ability to build anything, it is hard to reboot. It is a company with 10000 managers and no employees. It isn't even putting money behind a renewal of manufacturing; that is a 2 decade rebuild. You don't just need the companies, you need the support companies and the skilled labour. The big bet is all in on AI. The problem is AI will cannibalize jobs and other companies. When Claude goes two more generations, you replace all devs with token spend and have a lead dev forking out 3000 agents. All great but those $200k devs used to buy shit and keep the economy running. When that lead dev figures out he doesn't need to pay Salesforce monthly fees and can have his agents build their own in house, all the Salesforce employees go home too. There is no way AI can be the savior they need it to be.I just don't see a way out. Default on the debt, bring the troops home and point the guns outward. Have the farmers feed everyone and try to survive.

Let gold be a neutral reserve currency predominantly for settlements, USD can be used similarly but so can RMBY or even Roubles; consider these short term holds. Freeze spending on entitlements in real terms, cut in nominal terms via inflation. Tariff base commodities last so you reshoring isn't prohibitively expensive. Make a bipartisan agreement behind close doors to achieve this across several administrations regardless of political affiliation. Declare to Americans and the world the state of things, the plan (to some degree inflation has to be lied about in terms of severity) and note while the solution will be unpopular politically it will lead to a second renaissance in the working and middle class America and would undercut the free and easy money of the elites and retired generations. Soviet/Chinese/Early American worker/education programs where the best youth are picked near education, married to a corporation and even married to an actual bitch; give them free education and high wages to rebuild America from scratch.
