On the contrary....All borders should be closed mainly and only few people allowed exchange country to prevent inbreed but no cause normal immigration or tourist problems....those who trying cross border without permission need to kill on sight for example....remains should let at border zones for warning to everyone...no burial.

And yet everyone understood when they were clearly in the Roman empire as opposed to the Parthian empire outside of the contested border regions. Everyone understood when they were in the Roman territory to the wets of the Rhine and in the Germanic territory to the east of the Rhine. Everyone understood that they were in Empire A's or Empire B's territory depending on which side of the river or mountain range they were in.

The border between the colors orange and red is fuzzy and it could be argued whether or not a particular color in that part of the spectrum is actually orange or red. Yet you can clearly tell the difference between Orange and Red when you are not in the border regions.
