At one point the Catholic Church started to insist on 'church' names instead of folk names. However, these names had a revival in the 20th century. Names were actually always some kind of ideological issue, at least here. For example, a grandfather (born during the Habsburg era) had a classic 'Christian' name (Ivan, Stjepan, Mato). A father (born at the beginning of the commie era) got some Slavic, but neutral name (Zlatko, Zdravko, Goran...). A son (born just before the collapse of communism) got an exclusively Croatian name (Tomislav, Hrvoje, Borna). A grandson (independent Croatia/EU) got some 'modern', 'western' faggot iq 90 name with 3-4 letters (Liam, Noa). Fuck it.
