Nah, the physical aspect of Yoga - the "stretches" - are literally just to keep the joints moving well. Today, we know that full range of motion strength training (like Pilates) is superior to just static stretching and no one in the west really recognises the spiritual aspect of Yoga (which I know nothing about)
