That's a pretty common thing in the west in general. You give a bunch of kids some crewed heavy weapons and suddenly their teamwork skills increase exponentially. There's a ton of old photos of kids crewing heavy machine guns, antiaircraft batteries, mortars, you name it and generally having a good time.
