>>541613616this was the Siege of Szigetvár, four decades after Mohács. regardless of the outcome of the battle, Zrinski was a real motherfucker>The final battle began on 7 September, the day after Suleiman's demise.[59] The Ottoman army swarmed through the city, drumming and yelling. Zrinski then ordered a charge and led his remaining 600 troops out of the castle.[e] At the bridge of the inner castle, he died from bullets fired by the janissaries.[61]>Before leading the final sortie out of the castle garrison, Zrinski had ordered that the fuse of the powder magazine was to be lit.[62] After cutting down the last of the defenders, the besiegers entered the third fort of the fort complex[63] and fell into the booby trap.[3] The Vizier and his mounted officers had just enough time to escape but 3,000 Ottoman soldiers died due to the explosion.[4][64]

>August 29th marks (not taking into account astronomical calendar recalculations) the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács – a key geopolitical event for the entire Eastern European and Danubian region.>For a century and a half, from the late 14th century, the military forces of the Kingdom of Hungary were perhaps the most powerful adversary of the Ottomans in the Balkan Peninsula. The Hungarians suffered frequent defeats, such as at Nikopol, Varna, and the Second Battle of Kosovo, but nevertheless, their desperate resistance significantly slowed the overall Turkish expansion to and beyond the Danube. Hungary's peak success was reached in the late 15th century (when they captured Vienna and briefly controlled Austria) and the early 16th century (when they managed to repel the Turks, concluding a favorable peace). This peak was broken not by the Turks, but by the internal tyranny of the Magyar feudal lords. Having gained considerable latitude in rebelling against the king since the Golden Bull of the 13th century and having temporarily pacified itself during the Hunyadi era, by the early 16th century the Hungarian nobility had decided to take over as a supplier of grain and raw materials for the nascent Western colonial system. This entailed a complete disregard for the interests of the state and the people, replacing them with the private greed of individual court factions and individual landowners. The abuse of the peasants led to an explosion of popular anger in the great Dozsa Rebellion of 1514, which was brutally and sadistically suppressed by the nobility, with the impotence and silence of King Vladislav II. After this, the de facto slavery of the peasants, with the landowners' right to life and death over them, was enshrined in a "code of laws" that was essentially a code of lawlessness.
>>541623398>In 1516, Vladislav II died, and his 10-year-old son, Louis II, initially lived abroad. He arrived in Hungary only in 1522, and although, thanks to his energetic and equally young wife, Mary of Austria (sister of Emperor Charles V of Habsburg), he began to take some steps to curb the rapaciousness of the court factions, he simply couldn't make any significant changes four years before Mohács, and the peasants' alienation from such a kingdom became irreversible. While in the 14th century, Serbian and Bulgarian peasants themselves opened the gates to the Turks, knowing that the Ottoman Empire brought with it the abolition of serfdom and freedom from unlimited duties to the local lord, by the 16th century, Hungarian peasants saw in the arrival of the Turks their chance to escape the nightmare of oppression. Amid the fierce struggle between Protestants and Catholics, Hungarian sectarians, many of whom (especially in Transylvania) did not recognize the Holy Trinity, also saw Islam as their chance for religious freedom. Finally, in Byzantium, as early as the 10th–11th centuries, the Magyars themselves were called "Turks," so the ideology of a steppe "Turanian" community was revived after so many centuries.
>>541623276The only 'people' dying so far are subhuman slaveshits.
>>541623423>The outcome was a foregone conclusion: the Hungarian people refused to mobilize their gentry and the young, inexperienced foreign king to fight the Turks. Louis II cut off the ears and nose of the Turkish ambassador in response to a peace proposal, thereby provoking war. In 1521, while the young king was celebrating his wedding, the Turks captured Belgrade from the Hungarians and crossed the Danube. Among the inhabitants of Belgrade, sold into slavery, the authority of the Hungarian authorities was reduced to zero. Louis II, who understood nothing of military affairs and had no experience, desperately begged various European countries for help, but they got off with excuses or sent individual mercenary detachments for a fee. The Pope gave money to Hungary, not for the war with the Turks, but specifically for the fight against Protestants at court.>Ultimately, Louis II assembled an extremely motley army of disorganized knights (4,000), mercenaries, and forcibly recruited militia (around 20,000). He assembled it too late, too poorly, and, what's more, he decided not to sit back behind the walls of Buda, but to advance haphazardly, without plans, without maps, without reconnaissance, with inadequate artillery, against a Turkish force three times larger. Command of the army was entrusted to the Catholic Archbishop Pál Tomori and seven other bishops, who, naturally, were also no military aces. But the Pope released them from their monastic vows for the duration of the battle, which none of them would survive.
>>541623451>On August 29, 1526, at Mohács, when the Hungarians' first powerful attack on the Ottoman army encountered intense cannon fire and fizzled out, and the Transylvanian troops of János Zápolya, who dreamed of the Hungarian crown, stood rank after rank, making no attempt to aid Louis II, disaster struck. The 20-year-old king, unable to even control his own horse, drowned in a stream and was found only two months later; the entire Hungarian army perished or fled. Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent—another young, 32-year-old monarch at the beginning of his reign—was astonished and repeatedly asked whether Hungary, which had thwarted the Ottomans for a century and a half, truly no longer existed as a geopolitical entity. Two weeks later, Suleiman entered defenseless Buda and installed the puppet king János on the throne. One hundred thousand Hungarians were sold into slavery in Turkish markets in just one year.>From then on, it existed merely as an object. In western and eastern Hungary, two rival kings were simultaneously elected. The first were the Austrian Habsburgs; the second soon became Ottoman vassals. Fifteen years after Mohács, the capital Buda and all of Central Hungary along the Danube were transformed into an Ottoman eyalet and began their gradual Islamization. Transylvania also became an Ottoman proxy, and western Hungary and Slovakia fell to the very same Austrians who, half a century earlier, had themselves been enslaved by the Hungarians.
>>541623477>Despite the five centuries that have passed since Mohács and the many twists and turns of history, its lessons remain. One lesson is geopolitical: Eastern Europe is doomed to be a battleground for imperial powers (at that time, the Habsburgs, Ottomans, Jagiellons, and Rurikids). That the Hungarians have learned this lesson is demonstrated by the words of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (a Transylvanian Protestant), who made his country an observer in the Organization of Turkic States: "Hungary has always been and will always be at the center of the Germany-Turkey-Russia triangle." The second lesson is social: the privatization of the state into private hands and the anti-popular policies of the elite, coupled with a weak monarch, alienate the people from the nobility to such an extent that they are willing to support foreign invasion as a liberating force. Hungary will have to learn this lesson a second time in 1918, but many of its borderland neighbors have not yet learned it well enough. History will always punish lazy students for unlearned lessons with new "Mohács."

>>541613126Wouldn't be surprised if the khazar jews in hungary collaborated to let the turkroaches in. Have been disappointed with Hungary's performance on /pol/, they are afraid to name the jew.
