For Muslims, there are only 4 religions that exist

>Christianity
>Islam
>Judaism
>Sabians (now considered defunct)

The fire worshippers (Zoroastrians) are also familiar in Islamic history. But outside of these handful of religions, everything else is viewed as exceedingly odd and strange.

Shinto, Buddism, Atheism, Rastarfarianism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Muslims have never even heard of these. All these smaller religions don't even exist in Muslim thinking and are irrelevant and weird.

Therefore Muslims expect ALL Westerners to be Christian, at least in terms of how they identify themselves culturally.

When a Muslim enters the West he kind of knows he is entering "Christian land" and is prepared for Christian beliefs/practices to be around him and begins to learn how to preach Islam while refuting Christian doctrine.

Therefore when a Muslim sees a Christian boasting about eating pork, boasting about women being uncovered, boasting about gay rights, boasting about freedom, etc, he is stunned.

Of course, Muslims know that not all Christians are devout and practicing but they still understand that Europeans in general will adhere to some firm Christian principles, the same way Muslims and Jews do with their texts.

To see people identifying as Atheists, Agnostics, Pagans, Witches, Satanists, Humanists is still a HUGE cultural shock to Muslims who have no familiarity at all with this side of European culture.
