>A cowardly killer who murdered a security guard in a row over unpaid rent refused to attend court as he was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 19 years>Chad Henderson stabbed Nathan Burton four times in the chest when the 27-year-old tried to evict him from a flat on Woodhurst Road>The US national had developed a 'siege mentality' and made preparations to resist what he described as an American-style 'home invasion', including barricading the door and blocking the stairway with a sofa>Henderson arrived in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic seeking medical treatment. He came to live at a flat in Woodhurst Road, Moseley, in August 2020 but by the end of that year he stopped paying rent because he had run out of money.>When, in March 2021, his landlady asked him to leave he refused. He did everything he could to make it as difficult as possible for his landlady to remove him. By then the defendant had come to believe, rightly or wrongly, that he was entitled to remain in the premises. When she threatened to have him evicted he said that he would not leave without a court order.>Mr Burton, who was licensed by the Security Industry Authority, was recruited to evict Henderson on April 7, 2021. When he and two others first attended they gave the defendant five minutes to open the door before they forced entry. They were confronted by Henderson standing at the top of the stairs holding what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail, which turned out to be fake.>Henderson leant over and stabbed Mr Burton in the chest with a large hunting knife. The victim managed to escape to the street but collapsed and died in hospital the next day.
