>>
>>541646302
>Month long

Depends on dosage, big enough dose you will die quickly.
>>
>>541646112
Friend here. He’s not asking it on my behalf
>>
>>541646112
no his brain is going to slowly decay for the next six months give or take. he's going to slowly lose motor function then vision and hearing until he's in a vegetative state and can't breath naturally. basically a long drawn out death of the brain. that entire time he's dying slowly there's nothing that can be done either

>>
>>541645162
>why did he do it?
he wanted to kill someone
he wanted to fabricate a potent poison that can kill by absorption through the skin
the methyl groups make the mercury very affine to lipids, as such it can easily penetrate the skin and enter the blood stream where it will accumulate to the brain and cause death
one drop would be enough to kill an elephant
unfortunately he didn’t realize that you need laminated protection to your hands and work in negative pressure
he probably used standard latex gloves, that are notoriously permeable to dimethylmercury
the wanna be murderer will die a painful death

How the fuck did the lab tech even allow this guy to take out the precursors. Did the retard buy them himself from shady chinese chem suppllers.

Sadly, no.

Wonder why he thought it was a good idea to synthesize it. Did he have plans for it? Surely he understood the danger.
>>
>>541646692
no you cannot. what works for mercury poisoning doesn’t work with dimethylmercury since the methyl groups make it much less reactive and more stable in our body

>Approximately three months after the initial accident, Wetterhahn began experiencing brief episodes of abdominal discomfort and noticed significant weight loss. The more distinctive neurological symptoms of mercury poisoning, including loss of balance and slurred speech, appeared in January 1997, five months after the accident.[10] At that point, tests proved that she had severe mercury poisoning.[6][7][11] Her blood and urinary mercury content were measured at 4,000 μg/L[9] and 234 μg/L, respectively—both many times their respective toxic thresholds of 200 μg/L and 50 μg/L (blood and urine reference ranges are 1 to 8 μg/L and 1 to 5 μg/L).[10]

>Despite aggressive chelation therapy, her condition rapidly deteriorated. Three weeks after the first neurological symptoms appeared, Wetterhahn lapsed into what appeared to be a vegetative state punctuated by periods of extreme agitation.[10] One of her former students said, "Her husband saw tears rolling down her face. I asked if she was in pain. The doctors said it didn't appear that her brain could even register pain."[11] Wetterhahn was removed from life support and pronounced dead on June 8, 1997, ten months after her initial exposure.[10]

I used to supervise lab projects for chemistry students and I stopped a lot of them before they could kill themselves or melt their faces off and shit like that.
they are simply retarded due to growing up in hyper-safe environments and have lost all survival instincts as a consequence.

Similar to methyl or dimethyl hydrazine, MeHg or in this case dimethyl Hg it can methylate your DNA.
Basically it creates induced tumors all throughout your body. Methyl hydrazine is worse than MeHg but their mechanism of action is very similar. Actually methyl hydrazine is used in research to create tumors it's so good at it.

Well mercury most obviously. You would think whoever oversees the labs would ask the student or his advisor why he is fucking around with mercury compounds and if its relevant to his studies or research. When I was a chem student the lab tech would question why you needed even common shit like high molarity acid.

It can be treated with standard chelation. Though its really easy for the volume of dimethyl mercury to overwhelm chelation efforts, accumulate in the fatty tissue of the brain and kill the patient.

1ml of dimethyl mercury is equivalent to 3.2 grams
~400mg is considered a lethal dose, effective chelation treatment can usually get you under 10% of the initial dose after multiple cycles. Going from 3200mg to 320mg could still be lethal. So I'm applauding our hero for volunteering to try out a couple new chelation therapies in rapid succesion.

I did my PhD in chemistry at Harvard, just down the road. My professor asked me to bubble HCN my first year. Worked with pyrophoric compounds frequently, did work with HF (gas and liquid), HBR, Cl2 (pressurized), various energetic compounds, pure fucking nicotine even. Fuck, some of the old labs in mallonckrodt were situated in the towers above the building (picrel) so if someone researching explosives fucked up they'd only take out the tower. Also, the dirt berm in front of Mallinckrodt in picrel, where Sunny Xie used to have a lab, was also built for explosives research.

Not sure when MIT got so faggy that they can't even work with dimethyl mercury.

>whyd he do it?
Its unclear. Could be he was using it for NMR Hg 199 calibration, could be he was performing synthesis with it (plenty of literature has reactions using it), could be he was trying to poison someone (himself, his boss, some kike target). Could also be his hard/dumbass professor forced him to run a reaction with it. Wouldnt be the first time a prof has basically gotten his grad student killed.

And the final possibility is that this was during cleanup when he stumbled upon an OLD vial of the stuff.

All of that is less dangerous than dimethyl mercury. It goes right through gloves and skin and if you are exposed will for sure kill you. (We can ameliorate everything on your list.)

Further pre covid the grad students basically revolted at how dangerous the lab conditions were and the administration had to step in. Solving the problem by ban some of the most egregious practices, such as working with dimethyl mercury.
