Being a Russian soi is not the same as being a Western soi.
In the US, for example, the ratio of soi to non-soi among whites - let's say it's 50/50 (I don't know really)
In Russia it is ~10/90. Being a soi in Russia is everyday survival among folks with some kind of hillbilly mindset. This tempers your spirit.
I find myself utterly soi by Russian standarts, but when I travel abroad and meet some Western tourists, I notice their way of behaviour, their gestures, body language etc. It feels pretty meek to me. And I start behave with determination, as if there were a certain empty vacant space for acting decisively, and I am moving in to fit that niche. It is hard to explain, it feels more on visceral level.

babby's first eastoid-meets-emaciated-westoids moment
I know exactly how you feel though, one time I said "no" to a group of frenchies when I didn't like something and they looked at me like I was a god who just showed them the ability to be non-conforming

we deal with Asia so you don't have to which is where it comes from, soi literally comes from East Asia.
