The Russians puched through Ukrainian barricades with DRGs and they drove so fast that they left the supply trucks behind several of those tanks you see being destroyed in pictures of the early times of the war had simply been abandoned bc they ran out of diesel. The supply trucks trying to catch up with the armored infantry left the foot infantry behind and started getting ambushed by Ukrainian special operations we were still active. It was a show of force operation going wrong they thought the Ukrainians would fold when they showed up at their doorstep so they had to retreat to not get encircled. This is one of the reasons why Russians are going so slowly until today they don't want to catch another L like that by understimating Ukraine. I say that as a pro russian person it was a very badly planned operation that failed because of plain hubris.
>>541700512Another thing that Russians learned after this war is something that the Americans have already drilled into protocol of their soldiers, if you are going to abandon any equipment you always destroy it with explosive or thermite and several Russian soldiers didn't do this and left perfectly good tanks behind that the Ukrainians just took. This was a problem on both sides but since Ukraine used way less heavy armor than Russia this was more exacerbated for Russia. Today both sides scuttle their equipment with drones or booby trap everything making progess even slower.
