The comment about China is correct. They need to fuck off and not build them in the middle of neighborhoods though.

I personally would prefer it is the datacenter was right in my living room

because I can only assume the heat from the GPUs would save me a lot of money in heating during winter

Explain, in detail, how more data centers = more jobs.

Not during the construction period.

I want to know how data centers are going to magically create all these jobs after they are built, staffed, and operational.
>>
>>541739624
I know data centers are good in principle. I want our country to have them.

But I don't want them locally. They're a drain on the infrastructure and power grid. They get tax breaks so they don't contribute to the local economy. They're built to run on a skeleton crew so they create no jobs. And because there are not jobs for these giant sites, through jobs, like restaurants, gas stations and the like don't appear around them. If anything, businesses hate being near them and they become economic deadzones. Wheresoever a data center is built, that community is now subsidizing the data not just nationwide, but frequently globally. And I don't want brown outs in my neighborhood to ensure some faggot in India has cloud storage for his Amazon and Meta account.

Just build them in California. The people are cucked there anyway, and since they don't understand technology, just say it's part of Silicon Valley.
>>
>>541741771

there are a few good videos on how the taxpayers are - again - getting fucked up the ass, so that corporations can build data centers that we pay for... that don't provide jobs... and negatively impact communities.
>>
Replace the ball room with a data center, let's make the white house the most profitable place in America!
>>
>>541741996
why do you know this? what about "compute" is good in principle? why are you paying for it and not those profiting from it? why are they giving texas to hindustanis so they can maintain said "compute"? how is "compute" going to feed your nation? power it? defend it? surveil it? control it? what "good" things do you envisage it doing for the People?
>>
>>541742175
Why is increasing the computing capacity of the nation a good thing? Is that a real question? It's not just clouds and AI, it's banking, medical systems, government services, commerce, industrial operations. If we don't have the operational capacity here, we have to pay other countries to do it for us and be reliant on them.

Again, it's good to have them from a macro level. But any community they're built in gets fucked.
>>
>>541741996
They're literally just surveillance state infrastructure. We didn't need a bajillion data centers to run the internet 10 years ago, and we don't today.

>If we don't oppress you harder than China, then China will win, goy! oy veeeey!
>>
>>541742318
All of the things that do not require mass scale GPU warehouses owned by data brokers. Got it. There is capacity and capacity. The capacity you think you need is not the capacity you are ballwashing. Whether or not they are good to have at a macro level remains to be seen.

You go to the doctors but there's too long a queue for patient records so you can't get your troon meds or SSRIs?

There's a digital bloat happening. Some of it from bad shit. But it's still happening. We need data centers. The issue isn't getting them, it's where they're being built.

The fact that it's the latter and not the former-- that they're trying to force the issue instead of take the obvious alternative route should tell you that these data centers are not a good thing for the people and are being built by existing cities only out of convenience for the DEMONIC FUCKING KIKES who stand to profit the most from them regardless of the proven local harm they cause.

>>541743206
>no, I'm just protesting against the bad data centers
For fuck's sakes. You know there's no "massive data sorting and profile warehouse", right? Hyperscale data centers are just infrastructure. The same place that hosts AI workloads and cloud services is doing computing, financial systems, software, storage, and yes - data analytics and profiling.

If you hate Meta, regulate Meta. If you hate Google, demand they regulate Google. If data brokers are invading your privacy by telling the world that you consume diaper porn, then demand they prohibit the practice or buy a fucking VPN.

But demanding we stop building infrastructure so we can third world it and be reliant on other nations for ANOTHER fucking thing? Fuck you.

>>541739624
People are only against it because the power companies keep charging us for energy the data centers use. That isn't fair. If I have to pay higher electricity costs then I would rather not have a data center.

All they had to do was build a small nuclear reactor on each data center to power itself instead of dumping those costs on the general public through power bills. If we the people don't get any profit sharing from the data centers then we shouldn't be paying for their electricity.

Go take a look at what happens to people in China the lowest social credit scores. They're basically living in limbo. They can't return to nature, or integrate back into society. They're basically just stuck in massive urban centers whilst blacklisted from every service, just sitting around on the streets like the west's homeless schizos, except they're not even on drugs. They're just stuck there because of wrongthink.

It'll wind up being twice as bad in America.

541743581 (Power Costs Guy)

Right, but also consider which businesses thrive on low power costs while also having lower than average profit margins. Cheap hotels, laundromats, old restaurants, etc. I.e. The most niggerish places in (You)r town.

Why don’t green-fags hate data centers?

Simple: Positive Externalities.

Aging businesses are inefficient. Also, if they are in low-tax states, they cannot be pressured to sell out. So, we bring in the data center, raise the costs of utilities, and poof! They sell. It’s bulldozed. More efficient systems are installed, transient people, poor people, nigs (i repeat myself) get the fuck outta town.

It’s gentrification that PENETRATES entire sectors, not just geographical areas.

There's simply no way for you to recapture any sort of meaningful influence or standing. You got too carried away with yourself. You let the mask slip too far down on your face. We know you get off on inflicting as much misery and suffering as you can -- particularly against anyone who trusts you in any way. It's like you're obsessed with harming anyone you con into trusting. I seriously think you're addicted to the sensation derived of screwing others over.
But whatever. Just know that there's no way back for you. I'm not saying this from spite or malice. It's just the way it is.

>economic burden

"when a data center opens, the host county sees a measurable lift: Employment rises by about 3.5%, wages by 5%, business establishments by nearly 5%, and household income by about 2%. Building permits also increase sharply, reflecting construction activity tied to new facilities.

These are real, economically meaningful gains. But Yue and Zeng discovered that these gains are much smaller than what might be expected from a large investment. And they’re not evenly distributed.

Why Metro Areas Benefit More

The researchers’ clearest finding is that metropolitan areas capture most of the economic benefits from data centers, while rural areas see far fewer spillover effects. While metro counties saw increases in employment and new business growth, non-metro counties saw no measurable gains.

The reason comes down to what economists call “agglomeration,” or economic density.

Data centers don’t operate in isolation. They rely on construction contractors, engineers, equipment suppliers, professional services, and a skilled workforce. Those connections are far easier to build in places that already have deep labor markets and established business networks.

Metropolitan areas are well-positioned to absorb the indirect spending that data centers generate. High-wage technical employees support restaurants, retail, and local services. Suppliers and contractors can scale up quickly. These spillover effects amplify the impact of the initial investment."

There is a trade-off. Data centers use a lot of electricity, so in areas where the researchers can cleanly measure price effects, electricity prices rise by about 5% after a data center enters

Google makes a profit and might be set to spend 1 TRILLION on data centers. AI is only part of what data centers are for. Google owns youtube, which might be the king of internet data. Netflix uses huge data also and might be Amazon Web Services biggest customer and Amazon is also pouring billions into expanding it. The wacked out environmental movement want people to only think of AI when taking data centers because it's easier for them to turn the normie public against it than all the other more popular parts of the internet.

Wasn't just ATT affected, most other networks use ATT towers as well as their own and wasn't localized in the slightest when it affected 14 other states. If you want a mass national outage you have to hit at least 10 or more of these hubs simultaneously, if accounting for newer hubs installed since that day. Otherwise traffic will just be re-routed, something they could do last time which is why towers were down for 3 weeks in some places.

Luckily we don't have to worry about Chinks competing on data centers because we control the world's high end GPU supply. Chinks are making 7 nm chips at scale which is eight year old technology. They can't really produce 5 nm at scale due to the failure rate. US chip makers are down to 1.8 nm and commonly used GPUs for AI are all 5 nm and lower. So the chinks simply cannot produce the hardware necessary to even be competitive in the AI race.

People can go protest flock cameras and lobby Congress to pass anti-mass surveillance laws. But clearly the usual protesters aren't interested if it doesn't explicitly involve illegals, niggers or third worlders. Flock is only getting the modicum of attention that it is because it affects the ability of niggers to do crime.

He's telling communities that unless they surrender land, water, electricity, grid capacity, and their zoning decisions to giant tech companies, they’re “backwards and poor.” That’s bullshit. A community is not obligated to become a server farm just because some corporation wants cheap real estate and an enormous power hookup.

>le golden goose
A golden goose is valuable because it lays golden eggs for the people who own it. If a data center gets tax breaks while local residents eat higher electricity bills, absorb the infrastructure costs, watch farmland disappear, and get relatively few permanent jobs in return, the goose isn't feeding the town. The town is feeding the goose. Even his own vice president has acknowledged the obvious problem: much of the backlash is coming from places where data centers mean higher utility costs, and he says facilities should be putting power back into the grid rather than taking it out.

>le China
Pathetic. Americans objecting to a gigantic industrial facility in their backyard aren't secretly working for Beijing. They're asking the elementary question he seems determined to avoid: “What exactly do we get, and what exactly do we have to sacrifice?”

If data centers really are such a magnificent deal, prove it. Pay their full infrastructure costs. Pay market rates for electricity and water. Stop hiding subsidies behind accounting tricks. Guarantee that residents won't get stuck with the bill. Protect the grid. Protect water supplies. Let communities negotiate the terms instead of threatening them with economic extinction. Build them where they actually make sense. Because technological progress doesn't mean “the corporation gets whatever the corporation wants.” And if your entire argument for AI infrastructure collapses the moment a town says “No, show us the fucking numbers,” then maybe the problem isn't that the town is backwards. Maybe the numbers just fucking suck.

>more data centers = more jobs
Data centers do not directly make jobs other than the tech guys and security and maintenance working at them.
However, datacenters are essential required infrastructure for any job that involves the internet in anyway. As more people continue to do more things online, whether it is job related or not, that *requires* more datacenters to hold the servers where those online things happen. When things happen "in the cloud" that really just means it's happening on a computer in a datacenter.
There are already thousands of datacenters in the US, and they are currently at maximum capacity. All of the planned future datacenter capacity is already ~90% pre-leased.

Loudoun county Virginia is the wealthiest county in the US, and also contains the densest concentration of datacenters in the entire world.
This panic over muh datacenters is completely irrational and based on low information. No one is getting this upset over a hypothetical Amazon warehouse or FedEx hub or EV battery factory getting randomly built in their neighborhood.
>providing jobs
More jobs means more people which means more strain on the local infrastructure. If you build a factory or warehouse that provides 5,000 jobs, that's 5,000 extra people creating more traffic and using water and electricity and clogging the sewage pipes and causing the local housing prices to increase even more and creating even more work for emergency services.
A datacenter is just a big nondescript building sitting in an industrial park generating tens of millions of tax revenue for the local government.
If a datacenter gets built somewhere it's not wanted or overwhelms the local electric grid or doesn't provide a tax revenue windfall, that's because your local government officials fucked up, not because datacenters are inhernently bad.

>They can build all the data centers they want.
>AWAY FROM EXISTING PEOPLE AND CITIES.
They do. They are generally built in industrial parks or on cheap land in the middle of nowhere. I have no idea why everyone suddenly thinks they are going to bulldoze their neighbor's and randomly put a datacenter in an area zoned for detached single family residential homes and not just in a industrial park.
Until like literally a month or two ago, pretty much every city was trying to figure out a way to develop some kind of "innovation hub" high tech industrial park with lots of dark fiber and infrastructure to attract new datacenters and tech companies and jobs to the area. Until this recent wave of anti datacenter panic, everyone was hoping they could somehow turn their town into the "new Silicon Valley" with all this tech stuff printing money and making everyone who lived there rich.

heres the truth. we've had data centers for forty years. these new data centers are there for something bigger than mass surveilance. when robotics advances enough within this decade these robotics will be used to policy citizens. they already have mass surveilance. they can already see through your walls with light radiation emitted from your GSM, UMTS / W-CDMA, LTE, NR electronic devices.

just ignores the main problem which is that people do not want them anywhere near where they live. america is a giant landmass, there are plenty of places to build them far away from suburban regions.

>where does the money to pay the tax come from?
From the money the datacenter charges companies to use their resources. Datacenters have really good profit margins once they are completed and up and running.
>because all of the AI companies are currently operating at like a 30% loss with no concrete plans to ever become profitable
Google makes over $100 billion net every year.
Anthropic started making a net profit last quarter.
More importantly, the companies building and operating datacenters and AI companies are not the same thing. Some companies (like Google) own and operate their own datacenters, which are partially used for their AI operations. But AI and datacenters are NOT the same thing.
>>
So many Anthropoc and Palantir employees itt fuck off and die you fags

Biggest issue is power and the grid. Most of our infrastructure is built with the ability to do maybe 50% than we use for a buffer and or growth and current data center plans add 100-300% power use than what we currently have. Even on the low end and we just throw away the buffer and assume the power is generated some how to handle it, we still need to almost double our grid capability to handle data centers.

not really, they'll still commit crime at the same rate because they're too stupid to know they're being watched. theoretically this means that it will be easier to find and arrest them, but that's not what they're going to be used for. the point is to squash dissident against authorities, which is not something that niggers care about doing if it doesn't result in them being able to steal shoes or rob stores.

Well, it would be okay if your military was able to scare enough people. But I would expect to see more South America escapades instead, although it won't be as free as Venezuela.
Also, your country recently made some terrible military investments (less effective companies than even the old ones) so...I am sorry.
On the other hand, we will probably buy some of the fruits of these investments so I am sorry for myself too.

all AI is going to do is put people out of jobs. things wont get cheaper and we wont get UBI to compensate for it. it's been said a thousand times, but the purpose of AI is to keep productivity the same while having to pay fewer people to do it.

Jews. It was probably an even easier sell than wars for Israel. Boomers are almost entirely persuaded of almost anything by a line going up. They sent everything that wasn't nailed down to China once upon a time and waived the national border have Mexicans do everything that was nailed down.
AI is very obviously heading to an 2008 situation where everyone is going to have to answer for their involvement and it will define politics for a decade. Jews are using lolberts and conservacucks, who they don't even like, to pump the line and then will throw them overboard.

>we still need to almost double our grid capability to handle data centers.
Everyone has agreed for years that we need to significantly upgrade and modernize the US power grid, and if muh datacenters are what finally makes it happen, that's a good thing.
The current grid is a largely result of a massive, rapid increase of electric generation capacity in the 1950s due to the widespread adoption of residential air conditioning. Most local substations and distribution networks were built in the '30s and '40s when most houses were primarily using electricity for lighting, and could not handle the AC currents required by AC units. All of that had to be rapidly upgraded and lots of new power plants were built just to deal with Americans wanting air conditioning.
The current US grid is long overdue for a similar modernization and upgrades, so if datacenters are what drives it, that's great.
>>
>>541751849
This. The entire reason we "need" to build data centers until we make global warming real is because we've embraced Indians and vibe coding, which in turn means we need even more GPUs to post growth for even sloppier and worse-paid Indians ad infinitum.
Meanwhile in the actual physical universe, vidya graphics are like 15% better than 2007 and everything else is worse.

Most ridiculous is that he thinks his voters didn't just thought he's a clown. It was just an anti-vote so to say, to Hillary. It could have been goofy, and all would had voted for goofy. They mostly don't build these things just randomly on some farm or in some rural area or in place that was envisioned to be a park. It has happened, but it's pretty rare, they mostly like to locate these things right nearby electrical generation facilities such as dams or nuclear or large coal plants with on-site mining.

It's clear AI is seen as a military strategic technology which is worth pursuing an arms race over, and as usual with new technologies they will use economy of scale to make it more affordable. That's the plan anyway. None of the AI companies will buy NVIDIA GPUs forever. They are moving on to custom processors with unified memory. It will be cheaper than paying NVIDIA in the long run, and NVIDIA's done some shady deals where AI companies get GPUs almost for free while also investing in and partnering with NVIDIA. But NVIDIA is ending this with several companies apparently. AI is on the edge as it is, sensible people have tried to give warning. Not just financially but the entire purpose appears to be to replace people.

The worst point. Data centers are bullshit. At what point does anybody need a data center?

They haven't advanced anything except another data center. Each of costs more and last less. Let's call it inflation. Look at that they go side by side. Data center and inflation. More Data Centers and costs increase. No wonder poor people don't want them. It costs far more. Outside of the fact they increases the bills. All that electricity usage. Your bills increase. All that water usage. There's the California wildfire.

At what point has a data center brought back manufacturing or lessened costs and bills?

Data centers in small cities remove the last reason for big cities to exist. The skyscrapers and suburban office parks are just facilities for processing data.

Big cities will no longer be able to impoverish the small ones by hoarding data. This will destroy the Democrats, whose power depends on keeping people commoditized in hives.

Gen Z has been fed so much bullshit about these except the noise thing is real
For one thing yes they don't hire 20,000 people each but good lord man each job pays like 200K. If you get ten workers 200K at a small town do you even realize how much that can give in city taxes? If your city is freakin 5000 people? That is like 150K a year it can pay for new parks, roads, school supplies and expanded library. Usually data centers are in the boonies right? So yes hicks should be STFU about data centers because its literally giving them once in a lifetime job opportunities. literally shut up and get a certificate in cloud computing and change your family's life.
2) They can be run on recycled water, this idea they take an entire lake or salt lake city will go dry is falsehoods, also if you make a DC in Michigan there is unlimited water anyway but we still see people these stats freaking out just settle down damn
3) Electric bills are up but we are making power plants so it will be temporary

The people who hate data centers the most are the ones who should be getting rich from them. Go for the IT job, get the construction work job to build them, run the power plant or the wastewater treatment jobs. So many good paying jobs are just refused in the poorest areas in America. If they made Coal Country in Applachia Data Country it would forever make them middle class and prosperous but they still go to the Town Hall meetings and bitch about farm land and I been here 250 years blah blah.

The hard truth about data centers is that it is three to four times cheaper to build and run them in China which also means it is considerably cheaper to use data center services located in China. Maybe they don't want a gigantic plant nearby that emits both sub-audible and audible noise which interferes with sleep.
Maybe they just don't want their electricity prices to skyrocket as they data center requires electricity than some small towns just to run.
>b-but dedicated plants
In 2 more weeks right?
Maybe they want their groundwater (rural areas where these plants are built often use wells for their water) to have no sediment or far less in it. Sediment in groundwater is bad both for agricultural equipment and drinking water.

The primary product of AI is converting the world's code to curry-stained shit that needs twice as much compute so that we next year we can continue to make the codebase even worse. That's "growth."
