What matters for a space elevator is not the strength, it's the strength/weight ratio. 5x on diamond is not nearly enough. You need like 1000x. I'm not even joking, I've run the numbers myself.The only materials with properties like this are carbon nanotubes and similar graphene composites. But the issue is that they can't be manufactured in the scales we're talking about. We can make microscopic strands, but we can't line up the strands into longer strands, that's the problem.
