Their system *knows* this is bullshit, but prosecutors are like "nooo i must have a high prosecution record no matter what!" so there's not a focus on "justice" at all. I know Americans will mention African-American crime as a reason they have higher police violence rates, but they have no decent answer for shit like this....or for why they keep shooting people's dogs. First, this guy committed suicide because he had nothing to fall back on while awaiting trial and "enough to fall back on" could be quite a substantial amount. Secondly, the grinding attrition of litigating this just takes forever and you are in the lose condition while this is all going on, but the world keeps moving so you're also losing opportunities.
