>>541780897ah yes back when Microsoft didn't try seven ways to force you to use an online account to sign in, install Candy Crush and other bloatware on your computer randomly, have telemetry out the ass, and use React web apps as fucking start menu widgets.
My system takes 12 seconds. Yes I installed gentoo
>>541780897ok but how do you update the startbar for Pride Season if it isn't made using Javascript? We gonna call in a C coder for that?
>>541780897>6 secHonestly I'm surprised it takes this long.Win 95 only requires 4~8MB of RAM. The whole thing can be loaded from disk straight in to the average modern CPU L3 cache in miliseconds. (Obviously it needs to be coded to do so, but if they managed to get it to run o a modern Ryzen, they probably can optmize it more)
>>541780897Just use a Linux distro.
windows 95 is a beautiful operating system with an amazing game library
>>541780897Jeeting ramped up right after Windows 7
>>541781172That entire 6 seconds is going to be delays (sleep). When drivers are loading they will sleep whilst waiting for hardware to initialize. Since nobody really knew how long to wait, the delays are quite conservative. You could probably get it down below 1 second with enough effort to find the right bytes to patch to reduce the delays.
>>541781101mine too, windows 11, i am not technically illiterate tho
>>541782320>>541781172Win 95 can't use multiple cores or many of the features you take for granted. It'll never take proper advantage of a modern system.
>>541780897Zoomer coded postOn PCs back in the day it took like five fucking minutes to boot up. A program forcing you to restart windows meant you could go on a smokebreak
>>541782600I miss when technology was like this, there was a perceivable barrier between the meatspace and the digital. Breaking down that wall lead to the insanity we see today. We need to regress.
>>541781101Is there a book I can read to into that shit? Every time I tried to install it I failed miserably and ended up not even sure what went wrong. I think last time I tried it I forgot the fucking password and now it's just a brick.
>>541782600Hmmm it's almost as if we used slow spinning magnetic disks to store data back then instead of solid state drives and cpus were 100x slower.
>>541781104kek
>>541782684I dont. Nothing ever worked and you didnt have google back in the day. You’d have to look up shit in 500 page manuals
>>541782507I am aware that Windows 95 is not particularly useful on a modern machine. But that fact is mostly irrelevant to the discussion on boot time.
>>541782752That's how technology should be.

>>541780897I'm confused, is 6 seconds supposed to be impressive or damning? My bloated arch system boots in 4.5s on similar hardware. Is it really impressive to have such long boot times on a 30 year old OS?Startup finished in 2.105s (firmware) + 1.214s (loader) + 0.431s (kernel) + 0.812s (userspace) = 4.562s
>>541782320>below 1sDon't be fucking retarded lmao. Sub-1s boot times are unheard of.
retards itt are jerking off to the fact that an old OS that was made to run on old pcs is running fast on a new pc
> check out how fast this OS that has nothing to load bootsWhat's next you gonna do it on a VM and say it took 3 seconds ? Who GIVES a fuck ? My win7 and win10 machines take roughly 30 seconds or whatever to boot. Ok and ? How fucking moronically impatient are you people ?
>>541780897>on modern hardware and a ssdthe absolute state of the iq of amerimutts never fails to surprise me
>>541786182BRO DOS 6.22 loads in like .1 seconds on my ryzen ! I'm too 3r33t for ur noob ass
>>541782507It can't do multithreaded, multiple cores processing one thing, it does do multi process, aka it can use multiple cores.
>>541786024But it isn't running fast. It's running obscenely slow given the number of operations needing to be performed on boot. See: >>541785744On the face of it, I'd expect a 30 year old OS to boot faster than a modern OS on similar hardware; but as another anon pointed out, 95 boots slow because of time delays built into the boot process.
>>541786112>windows user>calling others moronicGlass houses, anon.
>>541786795I have 2 linux machines too and they're kali. Using windows doesn't make you a noob, just clean out all the telemetry garbage. I use different OSes for different purposes, do you use the same screwdriver for every screw ? Sigh.
>>541786848>just clean out all the telemetry garbageit is a truly eye opening experience to install a working firewall on a windows 11 machine. that nigger system used to report every pixel you clicked or interacted with in real time. type something in the search bar? instantly reported. just lol
I don't think there's anything impressive here,my Lenovo laptop with 16ram boots windows 10 in like 8 seconds,whoopdie doo
>>541782684>>541782752it was a natural filter to keep normies and stupid people away
>>541786848Why are you running 2 kali machines? That's not a general purpose OS. That's specifically for pentesting. You can't gut the windows telemetry. It's ring 0, built into your kernal. If you disable it, you will break all kinds of critical functionality in your OS and the system will patch itself when it silently updates. Using windows doesn't make you a noob, but defending the practice certainly does. If I use a windows system, it's a one-time temporary deployment and my private keys and information never touch it.What exactly is your windows use case? If I had a screwdriver that systematically harvested my soul, I would not like to use it; but I accept there are certain critical situations where it's unavoidable. I just can't understand why you'd run it as a daily driver.
>TIL some people turn their computer off
>>541780897My ZX Spectrum booted in subsecond in the 80's, and that's with a lousy 3.5MHz CPU and just 48K RAM. Everything went downhill after 80's.

>>541780897The government is starting to get involved with OS making. It will be the same as with cars. You just can't buy anything new without the state baking law-enforcement and total surveillance into it.If if microsoft wants to, they can't make a good OS anymore. Same goes with cars.
>>541790011This is where things are going for cars. You can't buy anything anymore.
>>541782689Look up Linux From Scratch
>>541790011Why would you even want new cars/computers? Technology stopped advancing at a rate that mattered 8-10 years ago. Why would I buy some faggot over engineered Hyundai Tucson with electrical/software gremlins present from the factory when i can buy an r32 GTR or E46 or Impreza WRX for the same price? For computers, the average consumer has literally no need for anything beyond a decent 2016-2019 cpu/gpu. Unless you're doing HEAVY machine learning work, you simply do not need it.For phones, I probably don't need to labour this point but a fucking nokia e3310 does everything you need without the surveillance software.
