Ukraine had postpartum depression towards Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens in 2014
>>
you mean the russian separatists that russia literally funneled into the region who even seized government buildings and infrastructure? yeah totally like le meme post-partum foid, very relevant, excellent agitprop zig-brain!
>>
This propaganda was always funny to me because almost everyone in Ukraine can speak Russian. pre-2022 almost everywhere in Ukraine spoke Russian as first language with the exception of the western regions. The Donbas was never special it was just easier for Russia to set up fake "separatist republics" right on their border than anywhere else in Ukraine and if the goal was to "liberate" the Donbas it's been turned into depopulated ruins now while the rest of Ukraine voluntarily switched away from Russian.

1. Lithuania/Poland/Sweden sponsor EaP project in 2009 aimed at integrating Ukraine into EU
2. There's lots of back-and-forth between Ukraine, Russia, and EU, but ultimately Yanukovich realises their economy won't be able to compete against EU market and they will be forced to shut down their trade with Russia
3. Yanukovich goes to Lithuania and says no to EaP
4. Maidan starts, and American/EU politicians visit Kyiv to support protestors
5. Revolution and/or coup d'etat happens with lots of violence and nationalistic dissent
6. Some police officers run away to Crimea, due to Crimea being highly anti-Maidan
7. Russia introduces its military to enforce order and help Crimea exit Ukrainian authority
8. National assemblies in Eastern Ukraine gather and demand partial autonomy from Kyiv (so local governments could decide their own police force, laws, etc. but still remain partially under Kyiv)
9. Interim government in Kyiv rejects this proposal and starts a military campaign to stop those who wish autonomy
10. Some police/military in eastern Ukraine change sides and join local militias to defend against Kyiv
11. Russia helps out with weapons and mercenaries
12. Civil war begins in Donbass
13. EU, Belarus propose Minsk agreements, which would stop military clashes, and would require Kyiv and Donbass to find agreement through mutual concessions
14. Minsk ceasefire is violated multiple times (presumably by both sides)
15. Ukraine receives plenty of US/NATO support, advisors, intelligence, weapons, equipment
16. By 2020 - Russia realises Minsk isn't working, and begins large-scale preparations for invasion. The preparations last 2 years until the invasion of 2022 under R2P mandate
17. After the invasion, Merkel officially admits that the Minsk process was EU's attempt to buy time for Ukraine to re-arm itself and retake Donbass by force. It was never aimed at helping the 2 sides find mutual agreement

What's even funnier is that Zelensky was the pro-russia candidate.

So what you are saying is that Ukraine did nothing wrong. I agree.

Ukraine was given many opportunities to act like a rational adult country. But it decided to commit suicide instead

Putin could have left Ukraine alone and done business as usual with one of the most corrupt governments on the planet. But instead he decided to chimp out. Would Putin tolerate separatists in Russia trying to break away? I think you know the answer.

> Putin could have left Ukraine alone
Sure he could. And Kennedy could have allowed Cuba to deploy Russian nukes.
Is playing this dumb really fun?

Ukraine gave their nukes back to Russia. Ukraine also had no NATO ambitions. Putin's invasion only sparked rapid NATO ascension. No one wants to invade Russia yet Russia always seems to want to invade others. That's why they seethe over NATO. Putin could have focused on building Russia into an actual nice place but instead chose to keep 2 decent cities and the rest being basically Africa with electricity.
