What's to stop you from buying a rural Japanese house for 1/10th the cost of an American house, and living in a country where literally every single thing is better than America? And, in many areas the government will pay you a one time grant (thousands of dollars) just to move to the area. If anyone is curious to see listings this is the site you want to look at, because the others are English-targeted middleman scam sites with jacked up prices, trying to hide the real sites such as this one from you: https://www.akiyabanks.com/
actually this site is good too

I dont speak Japanese and I dont want to be like the disgusting beaner spics that invaded America and don't speak English.
>>
>>541827736
For me this is not an issue because I hate my fellow Americans and never speak to them already so if I moved to any other country with better cost to quality of life ratio nothing would change. I simply won't speak to anyone there either.

Then again these countries have ex-pat clubs so that may be a way to force people to be friends with me finally since I'll be less likely to be rejected due to rarity of English speakers in the country.

Interestingly, there is actual vacant rural land for sale in Japan for $1 or less. But, you do have to pay hundreds in closing costs and any owed taxes.
>>
>>541827691
I don't want to live in a rural area
smaller cites are fine but I don't want to be too much in the middle of nowhere, especially as I rely on trains to get around
Japan's a good place to live though. Language is hard but I'm making progress, I still get tongue-tied or fail to find the word I want more than I'd like.
>>
>>541827691
Well i guess if you have a wfh job (cause you ain't getting one in ghost town japan), and you have time money and skill to restore the house, AND you're ok with traveling possibly miles for most things, it could be ok I guess? Still you won't be a citizen or speak jap so I wouldn't recommend

For us already stuck in rural areas in USA, a rural area in Japan is an upgrade. I can not pay $400,000 to live in a city. For example the rural Japan house I just looked at is 7 minute walk from a store and 12 minute walk to a Train Station.

Whereas in USA i am a 30 minute drive to Walmart already.

$22,000. would cost $120,000+ in USA. but imagine living in Hokkaido though... too cold.
>>
>>541827691
im not a fucking jeet. japan is for the japanese.
>>
I just know if I moved there I would go insane with rage and attack a Jap in less than 2 months. Because I can't stand when I know someone thinks they're better than me, especially if all of society thinks they are. That constant looking down on me would end in my attacking someone like a nigger and getting deported.

All because I do normal American shit like recline my seat on a train for example.

wow check out the pics on this one. i'd love to have this for $18,000, it resembles the houses of certain anime shows i've seen. i'd feel like an anime character. maybe that's cringe to say but it'd still feel good, like one of those anime hermits, instead of a lame american hermit.

What are property taxes like in Japan? I don't think I have any job skills that rural Japanese people want so I'd be living entirely off investments or unskilled labor if I moved there.

This would cost $18,000 in the us... theres not even a stove or a shower. Youre supposed to bathe in an oversized sink. That walls are literally paper. And those... there are RVs that provide more shelter from the elements and have climate control.

exactly, ull just have a marginally better existence with the prices and stuff but ultimately u should be using these countries for fast tracking retirement and controling inflation and the gooks over there arent about that

>>541827691
for the same reason no one wants those $1 houses in italy. if you want to isolate yourself you can do it more easily in your home country. housing is expensive not because the it costs a lot to put up a wood frame, it's expensive because everyone wants to live in the same few areas because of jobs and women. women all live in cities so that's where men try to go. don't listen to these anons who pretend they don't care about women, it's just a cope.
>>
>>541827691
why do you think these places are so cheap? They are in the middle of nowhere with only old people around you.
there's a reason tokyo is expensive, it's full of cute girls you can nakadashi.

>What's to stop you from buying a rural Japanese house for 1/10th the cost of an American house, and living in a country where literally every single thing is better than America?
1. Japan won't let me live there permanently.
2. I'm even less employable there than here.
3. A lot of those abandoned houses are in rural areas where you're expected to actively volunteer and contribute free labor to the town. Locals will bully and eventually run you out of town if they don't think you're doing enough.
>>
it would be a nightmare to talk to anyone
you would be middle aged by the time you understood wtf they were saying

I can't get a job in Japan so I will have $0 income.

I see we've moved on from crackhouseposting to this. There's shitloads of pitfalls associated with these houses
>dying community
>house hasn't been maintained since the 1940's
>probably don't own the land
>very likely a murder/suicide house
And unless you speak Japanese, you're in for a rough time. Godforbid it's one of those country dialects where you can't understand wtf they're saying.
>>
I'm an American, we're hated globally.
>>
>>541827691
Owning Japanese houses are such a liability that they can't even pay people to take them.
>>
>>541836127
this guy gets it.
there is a law in japan where unmaintained houses HAS to be razed to the ground if they inspect it and says it doesnt meet earthquake requirements for instance.
>>
>>541827691
Those houses belong to family lineages and if Sato-san decides to move back from Tokyo, he can legally take "your" house with little problem because not a single Japanese court will side with a gaijin against a good Japanese person reclaiming their ancestral property.
>>
>>541827691
You forget they have property taxes.
>>
>>541828950
No central heating. You would freeze you balls off.
>>
>>541836564

>>
>taxes
>contract requiring you to have the house repaired
>oh not just remodeled, repaired as is, no changes
>and the repairs have to be done by a traditional Japanese craftsman
>and he charges out the ass
>and you still need to deal with immigration and visas

Real weebs just go to Japan on a tourist visa, stay in a hotel in Akihabara for like $40/night, and really enjoy Japan. There's empty countryside at home.
>>
>>541827691
Weebs are gay. I like Japan because of NPB, whiskey, cars, tools, electronics, guitars, etc. The smoking and fax machines are hilarious because they’re like living in a 1980s future.

Something people overlook in these cheap homes: termites.

Japan is infested with them and many homes with take 5x the price of the home to save it, or just tear down and rebuild once the termites rot out the wood foundation.

Ok guys I am an American living here and we just bought a house last week. Those cheap homes have drafty floors and no AC. They are called Akiya. You can think of it like a very sturdy log cabin house. It's drafty, and designed for you to use oil heaters in winter. It's always fucking cold and you have to get an AC installed. The ac only will coverthat 1 room. Then some homes don't have automatic water heating.

Basically a normal house with insulation and like 3 ACs for the main rooms and you likely need 6 will be around 200,000 not in Tokyo. In Tokyo it's same price as the US, and way smaller.

So you pay less and you can live there but not like how you are used to. To live USA style you will need to to buy like 6ACs, get a modern style home that is insulated which automatically puts you at like 200,000 minimum.

Drafty floors really suck, the room never gets warm in the winter. One of our houses was like worth 4M but it was on family land it cost 100k to make it liveable for us, with insulation and ACs and a new bathroom and kitchen.

Living here is not easy for a foreigner if you are not fluent in Japanese and are not married to a japanese person don't kid yourself. You are gonna sick of the food and limited options. There are lots of good places to eat but culturally if you have things about the USA that you like it's all not here.

No chance to make your own business outside of cooking food or teaching English. It's not that easy. I know someone who got his startup funded he has PhD from here in robotics and he got funded. So fluent and 6 foot 2 white dude.

I only work here because I am in semiconductor industry. I bought a house based on where it's ok for my company to have me live.

Then you know sliding doors in some places, narrow stairs.

This only works for me because I am.used to it now. But everything is the same Japan is different than the USA but once you get used to its all the same.

When you get up in the morning you will have to pee a hole through the sheet of ice that has formed on the water in the toilet.
