It seems like most people on the left don’t really know what to do with Franco’s Spain in regards to categorization. On the one had they DONT want to call it Fascist because it lasted for 30 years and didn’t ultimately collapse into civil war or destroy itself by invading all of its neighbors in a seemingly self conscious suicidal death drive and that’s big part of what the left points to among the supposed fundinental flaws of fascism. On the other hand though they absolutely want to be able to condemn the regeim as fascist and label anyone who proposes the the same policies today as fascist.Beyond the left some people on the right and center find it strange to label Franco’s regeim fascist as he remained neutral in World War Two and ultimately joined NATO along with the wrest of Western Europe. What do you think /pol/?Was Franco an example of actually existing Fascism as a long running experiment??(Also be curious what you guys think of Salazar Portugal as well?)
