I think the big idea is to let the price of diesel and gasoline to keep rising in a real "Number of Hours median labor for a gallon of gas", to the point at which manufacturing liquid gas becomes cheaper than buying it and trucking it half way across the planet.

The process to turn sunlight into gasoline is already done, it's just 7% efficient and you'll make slightly more money selling the electricity to the grid.

If the cost of gasoline keeps going up, it's going touch a tipping point in that solar panels and a Mr Coffee Piss Diesel into a jerry can, becomes something you can mortgage, that will pays for itself in ten years and then be a cash cow from then on out.
