862 bit RSA-260 has officially been Factored and cracked by Eric Lu as of September 3rd, 2026
This is a huge milestone in the effort to compromise all Internet traffic forever, once the 2048 bit threshold has been crossed SSH, HTTPS, and any kind of digital signature is compromised forever. 862 bit is already enough to compromise legacy 768 bit and 1024 bit.

Encryption is dead, it will be 5-6 years before the data centers that are being built today will be up and running, the models cracking RSA-260 today are the worst they will ever be running on gimped hardware and limited resources. Basically RSA corp made a challenge to factor a list of large numbers.

So now we have the computer power to crack 768bit RSA keys (aka factor them)

But that’s still a huge leap to get to 2048bot, which will not happen soon. I’d say give it a couple decades

RSA-260 is a huge 260 digit number made by multiplying two secret giant prime numbers. Finding those primes (factoring it) is a really hard math problem that stood unsolved for 37 years straight. The number that Eric Lu has produced is one of those secret prime numbers, it divides RSA-260 evenly, which reveals the other secret prime number as well in the process. Once one knows the "secret numbers" they have access to any "private key" that uses that form of encryption in this case RSA-260 - this effectively makes the encryption useless as anyone can decrypt it because they have the master key.

It reduces the number of potential keys your faggot child game uses to secure your account.
It does not give attackers a magic key to get in, but it does significantly reduce the number of keys they would need to guess.
I could do the maths the work out exactly what the probability of a brute force attack is before/after these coprimes, but I can't be bothered.
It's mostly irrelevant for adults. Not many systems still use RSA. I stopped using ssh last year and i don't host any https/TLS stuff.
>>
>>541902273
Windows maximum RSA key length has been 16384 bits since XP with W32 API offered encryption tools, so good luck with that, and in theory there is no upper limit for keys, but problem is that with bigger keys, their generation cost also goes up. Which is why pure RSA encryption/decryption haven't been thing in a hot while.

Also here is list of numbers and how it has been going.

Cryptographers need to employ comically large prime numbers and the remainder function to encode data.
>Notice the OP's tweet pic has a 130 odd digit number.
They multiply two such primes to create a publicly available composite number that has virtually as many lesser coprime numbers.
>RSA-260, a number with 260 digits, is the product of that tweeted prime and another similar large prime.
Computing one prime factor of the RSA number will automatically discover the other prime factor, and thereafter individual modular residues can be calculated, and then secrecy is lost.

Encyrption works on public keys + private keys. The private keys are used for access, the public keys are used as an address.
The way you break encryption is by guessing or extracting the private keys for a given public key. If the private keys are easier to guess, it takes less time to brute force those keys as the number of guesses you need to make are reduced. This sort of encryption doesn't have any kind of "too many attempts, try again in 10 mins" because the authentication happens locally (usually). So bad actors are free to sit there and throw random numbers at a given public key in the hopes they open it.
Check out keys.lol. It's a website that does exactly this for the main btc chain. The chances of finding an in-use address are incredibly small; and it's reasonable to assume that whoever owns the domain will scrub any big hits from the returned webpage before you see it - but that is this principal in action.

TL;DR

Encryption uses math tricks with RNG generated numbers to deterministically scramble data. The numbers used as a basis for these math tricks is like a universal backdoor key to everything that uses that specific encryption everywhere, forever, because you can work backwards from nothing and restore the file.

RSA is used for authentication as well as encryption. So they could present themselves to your computer as blizzard's servers next time you log in and just ask for your password, or they could simply listen in on traffic between your computer and blizzard and get the password next time you send it. They could also present themselves as Microsoft, Apple, or anyone that provides software updates and push an update with malicious code. Since that update is signed with the right key your computer or blizzard's servers would install it just like a genuine update and then they can do whatever they want.

I wonder if I'd be any use to these people. IN college (mathematics and computer science) my one professor was talking about limits of things and was explaining the "limitation" of how big of an integer you could represent. Scientific notation rounds off. I raised my hand. I don't care HOW many digits long, or how many bits you're using, it would just be slow but its not that hard a problem. Okay, anon... holiday break is coming up. Why don't you show me your example program that can multiply two 32-bit integers, and show the correct result. All digits displayed, no scientific notation or rounding. I came back after the break and demonstrated it. He divided the class into two teams, each team slow and careful did the multiplication longhand. when both teams had the same answer it was my programs turn. It worked, professor couldn;t belieeve it, the looks I got from the prof and the whole class was priceless. How did I do it>? Easy. I analyzed carefully how I did longhand on paper multiplication, and parsed all the rules. I created simple 2d string array, the first two rows were for the two numbers to be multiplied. using string manipulation, I simply moved a "pointer" around the string array, doing the little multiplications and carrying over, etc. Shift every row left by one, and continue. Prof asked me to make him the same thing, but division, tell him the remainder after the whole answer. Took no real length of time using the same approach. Professor wrote some cool paper on it, and gets credit for his paper when it was all me. My name is the TINIEST footnote you ever saw in your life. Basically, my professor stole citations that are rightly MINE.

I don't know why everyone keeps doing the same things over and over.
I started out wanting to make my own little "enigma" encoder/decoder, just for fun. Seeeing how it was done and reading more, I decided to make my own algorithm.
random number of bits to the key
I use no primes or any of that.
the output file is the exact same number of bytes as the encrypted original file. So yes, with a pitiful used laptop I was running a JPG meme through.
>
Now, how are you going to attack my cipher.
right off the bat? You have to guess how many bits the key used even IS. My favorite trick is to run the "encrypted" output file back through with a different key of different length, thereby encrypting the encrypted data. So if you managed to guess the one key, you will never know when you just achieved nothing but another encrypted file that looks identical just different characters.

When I went bacl to the encryption site I was at, I got laughed at.sholes were saying, oh, your stupid single substitution cipher is only good for texting dirty to your girlfriend, anon. next up, was bullshit. Ah, I could just run a statistical distribution and tell you blah blah.
So I posted my little white paper that describes my algorithm. I just got ignored. But I kept refining it. I did some incredible torture tests. I ran a plaintext of 128 lower case "e" through it. Distribution came back flat as water. IE every new character (0-255) was only used once. My distribution even at low bit lengths was incredibly flat, so as to approach completely random output. (every character count was equal, as the text gets long enough)
>
I'd love to get it tested.
by that, I mean I get to encrypt a JPG of my choice, and see if they can show me the original image. Or run the original EXE I encrypted. it works on any file.

advantages:
1---the algorithm is (would be) public. Anyone can look and see that there is no possible back door being held. End used could trust it.
2---being a new private cipher system, no one even at the CIA or NSA would have any experience with it
3---how do you institute attack vectors when you know you *first* have to figure out how many bits were used.
4---what do you do when I ran the encrypted output back through to a different key a different key length. You can;t even read plaintext if you get the first encryption correct, how would you know.
5---works on any file. I've encrypted mp3, mp4, all image files, text, programs, anything

its a compiled C program and I avoided graphics to make it easier to deploy to anything, so it has that patented 1980-1990 text menu look, KEK

But if secure communications were CRITICAL? a simple program on my phone and your phone, and we agree on the key(s)... i don't think any force on earth is going to be breaking our texting back and forth. Plus i can send images and any other files, too.
A download site? could store the encrypted files to let people download, if they're authorized they already have the key(s). I could never generate any interest, but not like I know who to explain it to. But if security was job number one, this would be it.

many ways, but I'll start with the biggest first thing.
every encryption includes the number of bits in the name. Ever notice that? They know what encryption they're working on and how many bits they're dealing with. I take both of those away. Basically to enter into my race, you first have to discover the starting line. have fun looking.
>
for another thing, there were no "as many or as few bits as you feel like it" algorithms out there. A couple years from now? You can just keep running mine with longer keys, the faster computers will chew up the longer key lengths.
>
no "back door" is POSSIBLE with my system. I wish I knew how to get a text-based C program running on a phone and in that environment. Two phones with the same app and secure texting and image/file sending and receiving.

i'm still not really doing the needful following here...
do you just want to put your black box compiled C executable as the main engine for decryption ? or do you want to have the same functionality compiled on both devices?
you could make the shared key pluggable, as well as having the starting point of the relevant strings being movable...
somehow this seems like you're reinventing the wheel and also MODS this whole thread should probably be over on >>>/g/

>>541926171
Did this 20 years ago. My own Enigma machine utilizing 4 rotors of 256 bytes each, the last one being a reflector.
Yes it's very probably secure, but the downside is you'll need a large key. For private key cryptography I would prefer Serpent. Also has a (relatively) variable key length.
But this thread is about public key cryptography. Much harder to create a novel one.

Get your most closely kept personal thought:
put it in the Word .doc with a password lock.
Stock it deep in the .rar with extraction precluded
by the ludicrous length and the strength of a reputedly
dictionary-attack-proof string of characters
(this, imperative to thwart all the disparagers
of privacy: the NSA and Homeland S).
You better PGP the .rar because so far they ain’t impressed.
You better take the .pgp and print the hex of it out,
scan that into a TIFF. Then, if you seek redoubt
for your data, scramble up the order of the pixels
with a one-time pad that describes the fun time had by the thick-soled-
boot-wearing stomper who danced to produce random
claptrap, all the intervals in between which, set in tandem
with the stomps themselves, begat a seed of math unguessable.
Ain’t no complaint about this cipher that’s redressable!
Best of all, your secret: nothing extant could extract it.
By 2025 a children’s Speak & Spell could crack it.

You can’t hide secrets from the future with math.
You can try, but I bet that in the future they laugh
at the half-assed schemes and algorithms amassed
to enforce cryptographs in the past.

more of the modern stuff uses 4096 bits, but im no expert on it, 1K and / or 2K bits being cracked just means older systems and security mechanisms that are baked into hardware (Nintendo DS, but thats been cracked wide open in many other ways now) will be compromised

Don't expect miga to know math.
>>
My intuition always was that there is an electrical device that doesn’t use a clock to sieve out a computation for an extremely specific case, in this case factoring prime numbers. It’s limitation is the speed of electrons and is not based on oscillations like the clock and instead is modeled after a more simplistic physical process. You pour the right number of electrons in the top say some sort of number of em in buckets aka capacitors and as they flow through the system the counts of electrons left is your desired prime.

It’s probably all bullshit but it sounds like a good bullshit movie sci fi method that propels the story. It’s drug induced thinking aka stupidity.

Everyone always tries to solve and factor using existing processors and mathematics when that is part of the skullduggery. Some electrical engineer probably also thinks this is bullshit but whatever they just cannot design the circuit, but legitimately there’s probably a real physical reason why this is impossible. Someone would have figured it out.

I stopped caring about crypto when the NSA didn’t want to invest training me and giving me a job. Most likely they already knew it would be a waste because I am a retard. They didn’t need another tard. I respect that.

>>541930176
Yes.
It's already somewhat widespread in SSL and SSH.
It's just considered not really necessary and a waste of resources. 3072 bits RSA is also considered excessive I think.
4096 bits RSA is slower but operations still take just milliseconds.
Also these days RSA is being replaced with ECC, which is faster.
OP is about cracking RSA with conventional computing. It's not a threat. It's probably never going to be one. I'm not sure what the difficulty curve looks like but cracking the keys becomes twice as hard every few bits you add. Or something like that. It's not with every bit because asymmetric cryptography is weird and complicated apparently. Anyway, yeah you can just keep increasing the key length. Attackers are at an enormous computational disadvantage.
Also, when a cryptosystem has proper "forward secrecy" in its design, compromising old asymmetric keys won't allow to decrypt past traffic (though recorded traffic could be cracked in different ways if other parts of the cryptosystems were weak, but it would be on a session-by-session basis, which is probably a lot more expensive to do).
