US has plenty of nice places to live if you're willing to spend the money. But I like NE because it's pretty in the fall, has lots of history, people value education, and folks are largely accepting of others. It also has many nice farming communities along the CT river valley/Pioneer valley. But it's odd because they're mostly liberals or small government conservatives.It also has many pretty and famous ocean towns: Hyannis, Newport, Salem, Gloucester MA, Plymouth, Bar Harbor, Mystic CT. It has Boston and NYC nearby for good jobs, and decent ski resorts up north if you're into that. Also, something I don't see people mention often is that the roads are different here, since they were made for horse and buggy and not cars, they often wind and twist around - much unlike the grid system that many other places have. Also, lots of old stone walls everywhere.It just has a certain feeling around this time of year with the pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hay rides, apple cider & doughnut mills. If you've ever been to Amherst/Northampton in the fall and walked around, you get what I mean. If your parents were affluent, I'm not sure there was a better place to grow up in the 90-2000s.
