>>541942910It's a tax haven for corporations, it's well known to anyone with a cursory interest in finance and economics. I'd argue that it's still better than the UK for having that but it's not as if they are some sort of economic or manufacturing powerhouse. A large part of that money is also going to have to flow back to the US if there is any chance of the the relationship ever continuing, though it may never come back.

Our average salary is 55,000 euro but our standard of life and government expenditure per capita far exceeds that of the UK or a lot of other EU countries. Now, this is because we have such a small population, but it's great nevertheless. Most people have free uni, those who don't pay 10k max. No loans. HSE (our NHS) is virtually free and great. We have the best and newest roads all the time, any potholes instantly filled and looked after. GDP per capita on it's own means little but Ireland is thriving by all metrics relative to the UK.
