Grim defeat
>>541942510>Ireland's headline GDP per capita is more than double that of the UK primarily because of accounting distortions caused by multinational corporationsoh it's fucking nothing.
>>541942802>primarily because of accounting distortionsWhatever helps you cope lmfao
>>541942910>Because Ireland has a tiny population of just over 5 million people, injecting the global revenues of companies like Apple, Meta, and Google into the equation creates a massive mathematical anomaly. It makes the economy look like it produces over $130,000 per person, when in reality, those billions belong to corporate balance sheets and foreign shareholders.

>>541942910It's a tax haven for corporations, it's well known to anyone with a cursory interest in finance and economics. I'd argue that it's still better than the UK for having that but it's not as if they are some sort of economic or manufacturing powerhouse. A large part of that money is also going to have to flow back to the US if there is any chance of the the relationship ever continuing, though it may never come back.
>>541942510irelands gdp jumped like 20% in a few short years because apple, google, fuckbook and others moved to ireland for the tax breaks (they also moved their hundreds of billions worth of assets into irish banks.
>>541944354To their credit they have a low rate and skim a reasonable percentage off the top for just existing, it was a smart play.
>>541942510You do realise this is like pointing out the gdp per capita of the cayman Islands is high? I'm not going to explain further because if you don't grasp it now you are simply too fucking dumb to bother with.
>>541942944Yeah obviously but the revenues from these companies are huge for our population. Our average salary is 55,000 euro but our standard of life and government expenditure per capita far exceeds that of the UK or a lot of other EU countries. Now, this is because we have such a small population, but it's great nevertheless. Most people have free uni, those who don't pay 10k max. No loans. HSE (our NHS) is virtually free and great. We have the best and newest roads all the time, any potholes instantly filled and looked after. GDP per capita on it's own means little but Ireland is thriving by all metrics relative to the UK.
>>541942510Based. What's the source? I want to wave it in a few faces but they'll ask for a source.
