The cameras 40 years ago were incredibly “dumb” and had extremely limited ability to automatically classify things compared to the ones of today. That’s why Flock cameras are on small trails and back roads where pedestrians walk, because they can scan your face, scan the NFC signals from your wallet and whatnot. They don’t even need your vehicle to identify you. And instead of being run by the government, these cameras are being owned and operated by a private company who gets to save a copy of the data and share it with whomever they want, as per the terms of their service.
