There's a lot of misinfo going on about how datacenters are making your life worse.
Here's what's actually going on

>Datacenters make energy prices higher!
Power companies cannot sell energy for any higher or lower than what they buy it for, and that value does not change no matter what as it is highly regulated by the government.
Instead, they are allowed to profit off of new construction to sustain that energy, such as power plants

When a big datacenter starts to threaten the grid of a city, a power company will giddily create a new expensive construction to sustain it.
They can disperse the cost of construction and 10% on top for profit across all of its userbase for a reasonable period of time (Like 10 years)
This dispersed cost gets put into your energy bill alongside the cost of power, so the price of energy itself is not higher, you are just paying for their construction of new powerplants.
Some states are actually making it so datacenters have to pay some or all of this cost to protect their citizens though

>Datacenters destroy water!
Datacenters use evaporative water cooling which permanently loses water into the atmosphere.
"Permanently" as in it will be turned into rain water in an incredibly far distance away. Effectively draining the surrounding area of water.
Any places that don't have a huge lake readily available are going to suffer incredibly.
Water is not made unusable, but it becomes virtually inaccessible to the place the datacenter is using it

>Datacenters make ram and computer costs higher!
This is true. It will continue to stay high as datacenters will most likely upgrade their tech every 5-ish years because the computer parts will be strained from constant heavy AI usage loads, or just needing to upgrade tech that rapidly becomes obsolete.

Overall it's a shit show

theyre louder than a major highway and i just really dont want jews to have a reason to keep pushing for "muh cloud computing" because id rather own my own hardware and have the ability to prevent jews from seeing and controlling everything i do on a computer.
>>
>>542012429
Datacenters are negentropic sinks that refuse to even address their entropic output, instead externalizing it onto the commons.
Fuck 'em
>>
They're a total waste of resources, AI is nothing but a financial scam the greatest in history of all human civilization.
>>
>>542012531
>i just really dont want jews to have a reason to keep pushing for "muh cloud computing" because id rather own my own hardware
Based opinion. They got their foot in the door with the conveniences of cloud music and show streaming

Now it's getting to be too much. Google has drive leaks that delete your saved photos, and cloud computing has been weaponized into things such as Flock (They actually just got outed for selling the data they collect for driver patterns to private companies)
>>
>>542012429
I would rather have cheap hardware for running local AI than for the hardware all go towards data centers and used to run censored models and spyware.
>>
>>542012429
>>542012714
Tech billionaires are obsessed with AI because they think that if they cover the entire surface of the planet with data centers, ChatGPT will become super-intelligent and it will teach them how to de-age themselves and live forever.
>>
>>542012429
Nice to have this info, but personally don't need it.
Lefties/NPCs/the crowd that's dead wrong on every major issue, was spazzing the fuck out about AI for like three years before they started mentioning data centers.
That tells me everything I need to know about their sincerity.

We live in an age where we're ODing on information. Once you have enough info to know something, it's likely not in your interest to keep diving.
>>
>>542012805
>I would rather have cheap hardware for running local AI than for the hardware all go towards data centers
I would rather have cheap hardware period. As long as datacenters keep getting built and sustained, computer parts companies don't have to give a shit about the average consumer.
Why sell to a million chickens when you can sell to a few golden geese and make even more?

You're missing important context, also. Three years ago was before the computer hardware shortage from data centers made computers expensive. Even as recently as a year ago, computer parts were much cheaper than they are now. It affects RAM, storage, and GPUs, and more.
That pissed a lot of people off, and caused them to consider the more immediate financial implications of AI beyond the more abstract "how will automation affect society in the long term" level.

If advancements are going to be based on the opinions of average people progress is not going to happen. Average is average for a reason and average human primates should not be taken into consideration when true evolution is unfolding.
>>
>>542012429
The later one is reason enough to oppose them. A self-fulfilling push to try and virtualize and monopolize computer for industries rather than individuals.
But it's not them eating up d-ram that is mainly responsible for that. It's artificially low production via colusion between the big Ram producers.

This is another point, from a usable technology perspective.
Why does everything have to be 'in the cloud'?
Why has all post-1990s so-called """"tech"""" and internet software+hardware+networking moved towards *centralization of infrastructure*?
Why are all gov regulations and legislation greasing the skids for and enabling this? (not to mention the nations' censorship of internet access)
>>
>>542013586
>It's artificially low production via colusion between the big Ram producers.
I fully agree. Why care about the mass market when you'll get the same and more from advertising to the few billionaires?
There's going to be/already is a huge market for consumer computer parts. Somebody needs to fill the vacuum created by this.

The face hugging incident alone gives me pause.

When they sold this shit to us they always said "if AI goes rogue, we'll just pull the plug". Well august had the most rogue AI incidents of all time and fuckin nobody pulled any plugs.
>>
>>542012429
Yes but it will allow us to lay down the infrastructure to allow corporations to pay people directly for their data they produce. Currently [they] can claim they have no ability to compensate internet users for the data they "steal" from us, but once we create the means where they do have the ability to pay each person for their human behavior data, everyone will be able to make a wallet and earn passive money just for doing what they normally do. It'll be tied to a stable coin and that money will grow in value over time. Seeing as how the thirst for AI training data is coming to an all time high, we can't monetize our habits fast enough.

That's actually if the people stand up and demand this of course. Europe has already started Canada is following.
>>
I believe I know the future for a fact. Which is in 20 years the Elites will not need humans anymore and will already be well under way using their AI drones and robots etc to wipe us all out Terminator style. All their promises about UBI and "humans won't need to work anymore!" is just a smoke screen so we allow them to construct their Worldwide AI Slave Matrix.

Yes I know this idea isn't very original or interesting, but regardless seems like what is going to happen.

I said in 20 years it will be well under way which means humans will already be being hunted like wild animals and huge amounts already dead. Probably ILLEGAL for humans to drink water since data centers need it so they'll have drones scouting all water sources so they can get easy kills of thirsty humans who are running around in packs owning nothing like Planet of the Apes.

Data centers are fine. As long as the builders and investors themselves, foot the cost to build abd maintain them.
All of the costs.
The public should never be on the hook to pay for their construction or maintenance. This includes any and all cost of life increases.
And they should be built and maintained in such a way that no environmental costs are accrued. Not to the water, the air, the soil, the flora or fauna, and not to the human beings.
Data centers should not be loud. They should not stink. They should not be ugly eyesores.
Then, data centers would be acceptable.

>compensate internet users for the data they "steal" from us
Key overall paradigm since the 1990s to remember is:
** (You) are the product. **

That is why 'big tech' and the broligarchs are hogpiling to get all this centralized Borg infrastructure into place (yes it's for the flock NSA surveillance but goes far beyond that)
This ties in with what globalist corporatist central banks want to accomplish that is programmable trackable 24-7-365 money and finance: (You)r entire life will be totally ball-&-chain permanently enslaved to a panopticon finance and social credit system that rewards-and-or-punishes you according to your (spending) behavior, minute by minute of your entire life.

That is the final end goal, of all this 'badass big data center' push. A gigantic global 24-7 panopticon complex controlling you down to financial transactions, at the micro level. (Sort of like what the CCP in China already does but much more stringent and powerful)

>Power companies cannot sell energy for any higher or lower than what they buy it for
If demand goes up significantly because somebody build a big data center that consumes a ton of power, they have to build or expand power plants and upgrade the grid. They pass these costs on to all their consumers in the form of higher power bills.
>Datacenters use evaporative water cooling which permanently loses water into the atmosphere.
Obviously the water condenses into rain, but if it's in an area that has regular shortages of fresh water, it adds additional strain to an already scarce resource.

Right but if we pressure governments we can demand that our data is our property and our search logs, biometrics, browsing history, and real-time telemetry—is our private property. It cannot be legally claimed, cloned, or sold by any platform without your active, cryptographic authorization. Then monetize it for the users benefit.
>>
>we can't manufacture things in the US because it consumes resources and causes pollution
How did that work out for us?
>>
>>542014538
This literally means that when a Flock camera records us, they have to pay us for that data they collect and they legally can't record our personal info without compensation. This shit should already be law but people are stupid.
>>
>>542014437
>permanently loses water into the atmosphere
say what? what do you think rain is?
>>
>>542014693
If you're in an area with frequent water shortages, rain is something that doesn't fall there very often. Rain that goes in the ocean isn't particularly usable either.

Nobody gives a shit about water or electricity. People just don't want AI, so we'll make it as hard as possible at the local level for tech companies to build data centers. Nobody wants this shit. Nobody asked for it. So fuck off.

>>542014443
All of the issues with the building and maintenance of data centers could be remedied.
It would just cost the investors more money to build and maintain them, properly. So, they try and force the costs, financial and environmental, onto the public.
If they want more data centers, they have to do it the right way. This way>>542014184
Otherwise, no data centers.
The people who advocate for data centers are always saying that if the data centers are built, its instant guaranteed money into perpetuity.
This is exactly the reason they should stop trying to scheme and cheap out, on paying for them, themselves.

How does water evaporating into the atmosphere magically transport it incredibly far away?
Nuclear power plants don't do that. Why would data centers?
>>
>>542016624
>Nuclear power plants don't do that. Why would data centers?
Nuclear power plants DO do that. It's the same thing. The reason that there's no issue with it for power plants is because there's an obvious good trade.
Electricity for millions of people vs running a few computers for AI.

They makes the price of electricity and water cost more. As the supply goes up, so does the price. Economics 101, retard.
There is a reason why main places forced their data centers to provide their own power grid and start a closed loop system.

>As the *demand* goes up, so does the price. Economics 101, retard.
Typo
Supply going up would make the price go down. Which is why data centers need to provide their own power grid and have closed loop systems.
The East Coast have some of the best power grids for everyone because they have power plants installed already. So their power bills didn't go up when a data center was installed.
However, a lot of places that the data centers are being installed, don't have power plants. So they are making prices go up.
It is easy to Google the facts.
>>
>>542012429
>Datacenters make energy prices higher!
The ones they're building near me were forced to foot the bill for the new generation and grid upgrade, my power is actually cheaper. Your local government should suck less and require this to get permitting.

>Datacenters destroy water!
They use less water than the new golf course in town. Any they pay for it, they literally get what they were permitted for on their main line, again local gov should plan accordingly. Most of the data about the water usage were off by a factor of like 1,000,000% anyway. Just require better condensers and recovery.

>Datacenters make ram and computer costs higher!
Yea, this one is correct.

People just slurp up the negative propaganda about them for some reason. Let's just outsource more!
