Why did gay marriage decline so much as a political issue in the US? It was a big deal from approximately 1993 (the start of the 'don't ask/don't tell' military policy) to 2012 (when Obama endorsed gay marriage and cruised to an easy victory). After that, no one seemed to care. What happened? How did the pro-gay marriage side win so easily? Even a hardcore far-right Republican like Trump has refused to touch the issue.
