How did the economy function for thousands of years without HR departments?
>>
It was far smaller and way more local.

Before the industrial revolution there wasn't much wage labour to do. You either worked your own (rented) land, were an artisan or peddler working for themselves or were a serf.

physical punishment

>worked your own (rented) land = samething now
>artisan = tradie, artist
>peddler = self employed, small business owner
>serf = wagie
the path is clear

Serfs were more like slaves though, except they weren't as movable or easily ""liquefiable"". They were more like property that came along with the land under a noble title.
But if we ever own nothing und vill be happy then we are getting closer to serfdom.
Because if you have no property, you ARE the property

Disputes were a 'take it out back' situation.
