I completely agree with op. People need to learn basic things about growing food. My father was able to feed a family of 6 with 1/2 hectare. We also had chickens and some goats. He rarely bought food except flour, salt,sugar ,some spices. I have afair amount of gardening experience but wanted to share a mistake I made. I tried a bunch of cheaper soils you can buy at stores and every single one of them blows and cost me harvests. They are too filled with stocks, they compact too easy, and get water logged. I'm in a dry climate and still lost a bunch of stuff due to the root dying from not ever drying out.Spend money on better soils, and make your own cutting it with perlite or something similar.
