A huge amount of the direct materiel aid was stuff like M113s, Bradleys, and pre-A1 Abrams tanks. Almost all of it was just sitting in depots in the desert slowly rusting. While it cost a nonzero amount to reactivate and ship them all, this is stuff which wasn't for sale (no one wanted to buy it) and long paid-off. It cost a lot of money to make 40+ years ago but it was essentially worthless. Long story short, both Republicans and Democrats had ample reason to lie about this stuff. Democrats wanted to inflate the dollar amount to brag about how much they were giving Ukraine and Republicans wanted to inflate the dollar amount to complain about how much they were giving Ukraine. Either way, the figure of even $300b is utterly ridiculous. With that money, we could have ordered new production modern shit to give to Ukraine, and it probably would have ended up being more than they ended up receiving. My point is that Trump is like a fucking plague of locusts except instead of eating your crops he wants to con you while you're vulnerable.
