Realistically, could Argentina take the Falklands? How would YOU do it, given the forces at Argentina's and Britain's disposal?

No. They say this every year because it's part of the Argentine psyche at this point. They're not actually going to do it.
>>
>>542045878
They just need to wait for the UK navy to further degrade.
>>
>>542045878
I think it's more notable this time round because of Trump also commenting on it out of annoyance the UK didn't try to help him in Iran so it feels like he may try to exert concrete pressure in the matter.
>>
>>542045879
The UK could disintegrate entirely and the Falklands left completely depopulated and Argentina still wouldn't be able to take it. Not that if the UK could do anything if Argentina, by some miracle, manages to get a single soldier onto the Falklands, but still.
>>

The royal navy consists of like 1 frigate and a submarine that's in for maintenance. Everything else has effectively been decommissioned.

Everyone is saying no but Argentina can make this a nightmare for the UK without ever sending a single ship or plane. They just need to build a bunch of lawnmower drones and chuck them at the island. The UK is in no better a position to shoot them down then the US is with Iran, their stockpiles of AA can not hold up to this kind of attack. With only 2800 people on the island, there is no way the UK won't evacuate everyone.
I don't think the UK wants to spend the kind of time and money necessary to counter endless one way attack drones, the Falklander don't want to live in bunkers and there is nothing meaningful the UK can hit back with that would make Argentina stop unless the UK is willing to level Buenos Aires.

UK is a staunch supporter of Ukraine and is open to giving lots of machinery and weapons to the Ukies in the one theatre that matters to UK's security.
Well Krasnov was once again activated and is now pushing brown dicktator to do the funny.
And well, even the potential threat of brown dicktator doing the funny means that UK has to make sure it has a big enough FUCK OFF force at the ready and can't just throw everything that's not outright essential at Ukraine to fuck the Russians up more.

Given that Argentina's air force consists of 30 very old planes and their navy consists of two destroyers and 5 corvettes, I'm gonna say no.

I would send a couple hundred argentine cuties to mate with local men, and raise families and educate their children to be argentine rather than english.

>>542045892
Well Britain could do the same thing back i spades - don't forget the missile and drone expertise the UK has built up in Ukraine. And it has a vastly larger budget for that sort of thing. But the UK could just wreck Argentina's fragile economy with a few dozen carefully placed Tomahawks hitting strategic targets, it's not like Argentina can shoot them down.

Israel is calling in their connections to lash out at Spain and the UK. This belongs in /int/.
>>
It's a pointless discussion. The British secret service is the best in the world and it would take the Argentines months to scrape together a pitiful invasion force. Britain could simply fly down a few more Typhoons and a battalion of troops and that would be it. There are already a couple of thousand troops on the islands IIRC.

>>
>>542045907
The UK was trying to give the Chagos Islands, including Diego Garcia, away to Mauritius last year, completely umprompted and without even asking the locals, who didnt want this in any way. Nobody in Mauritius wanted this either, and it was only stopped because Trump threatened to rape Starmer if he threatened his Iran war strategic base with Chinese-influenced Mauritius taking over at the worst time. The Starmer governments' agenda was literally to just weaken, diminish and humilliate the UK, if the Falklands handn't been bled over you can bet your ass they would have been given away for free.
>>
>>542045930

>>542045930
He tried asking bluntly before and while i think he should have more finesse in his shit talking and insinuations(i would appeal to the European public to pressure their politicians over defense), it is an objective fact that Europeans only get off their asses and gain motivation when you insult their pride and make them butthurt.

>>
>>542045930
>the way Trump is going about it is going to convert a bunch of partners into rivals and leave the US less well off.
Bush Senior, Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama have all asked as cordially and politely as diplomatically possible with regards for our western european allies to spend more on their defense and take their militaries seriously but they were all shut down or blatantly ignored. I think there's even an interview where Obama was saying that when Trump was blunt, but still relatively cordial, about having the western Europeans to spend more on their own defenses that he (Obama) was glad that there was someone in the US willing to tell people to their faces that they needed to cut their bullshit and get their asses in gear. If it takes having the Europeans to become a rival geopolitical block to have them actually take their defense needs seriously than I'm all for it, but even than there is still a shit ton of decision makers throughout Europe that would rather shit their pants and do nothing all day despite Russia having ACTIVE MILITARY SABATOGE campaigns running throughout the continent.
>>
>>542045935
If Russia is so concerning, why doesn't the US increase THEIR defense spending? Why is it up to Europe?
>>
>>542045936
Because the US is busy with Chyna, and Russia's actively trying to assert dominance on Europe so it is objectly their problem
>>
>>542045936
The US already spends a trillion dollars on the military, over two thirds of all NATO spending and well over 3% of its GDP, and it didn't need Russia invading Ukraine twice to encourage it to do so.

Kek. Why is trump so stupid? The UK government DOESN'T want the Falklands and they DIDN'T want it back then too. In fact, they were in the process of forcing the Falklanders to accept being given away to Argentina. But nooooo. The Argies couldn't simply waited another 5 years. They HAD to invade...because machismo and all that. So now the UK is in a kafkaesque situation: they dun wan it but they have to keep up appearances. >So why do you care?
Because the Russians have shown that they are monsters to those that they subdue and subjugate. Yet the Europeans are hmm'ing and haw'ing while slapping the Russians on the wrist for launching homemade explosives into electrical substations and burning down military defense industrial plants and storage yards. Pretty sure there was even a story where explosives were found in some house or warehouse where it was suspected that the sabetuers were wanting to bomb train tracks.

if any of you have ever lived there this is literally nothing surprising. they do this every year pretty much. most busses have stickers that declare the islands to be Argentinian. most major cities have murals that show the islands alongside the mainland. entire towns are literally named Islas Malvinas. if you ask anyone about the topic they will all believe that the islands are theirs and that the kelpers should be deported if not neglected as though you asked them if the sky is blue
very odd but that's just the way things are

It’s not about the islands, not really. The islands are functionally worthless for anyone.

What it’s actually about is having a convenient target they can use to distract from internal issue.
>>
>>542045974
The islands are absolutely not worthless. First of all, there is oil there. Second of all, by controlling the Falklands, the UK gains a claim to a region of Antarctica, which has a huge amount of untapped resources (just as an example, a massive amount of coal). Third, it provides force projection for the UK and its allies should the need arise in that part of the world.

Notable here is that the UK's claims and Argentina's claims overlap. Without the Falklands, the UK has no valid claim and Argentina's full claims come into force.

Not at all. Few of them are spending anywhere near the level required to actually halt degredation of, let alone meaningfully regenerate, their capabilities after decades of neglect. Spending at sub-2 or 3% GDP for decades creates a deficit that needs to be closed with commensurately higher spending over time. Only some of the Nordic states, Baltic states and Poland are closing the gap.

Now the situation is actually pretty bad for Britain. Argentina has no way to credibly project force and is completely broke but the Falklands are effectively defenseless. Most of the Cold War fleet has aged out and has been decommissioned.
Right now the Royal Navy has to protect all of the UK's global possessions across the entire planet with:
Two (2) Type 45 destroyer. 4/6 are in a major maintenance/overhaul.
Four (4) Type 23 Frigates. There might be a 5th ship available depending on the time of year. The remaining two are in overhaul.
One (1) Astute class submarine. The remaining 5 are basically mothballed because their maintenance is so far behind. No parts availability whatsoever.
One (1) Vanguard class ssbm. This can't be spared due to its critical national defense role. The are 3 additional subs in dock but the UK is so far behind with maintenance that its rumored that there are times where not even a single Vanguard class sub is sea
Two (2) Queen Elizabeth class carriers. The only part of the navy in good standing and that's only because HMS Queen Elizabeth recently left drydock.

This is overall not good. The only thing Britain could reasonably scrape together in addition are the 8 River class patrol vessels sailing around but this is barely a usable force and over-reliant on the carriers for everything.

Its a 2 stage process they need to identify and disable UK AAA and also temporarily disable the fighter squadron on the ground, which should be doable with 100 or so Shahed type drones. But then they have to destroy the runways. That will be conventional air strike. The final stage is getting troops on to the east island - it might be the easiest part. Obviously syncronization is needed but the hardest part is the AAA intelligence there will have to be great power/satellite information feed.

Once troops are across the east island its over for the UK they just don't have the ability to do a retake any more. None of the gear, no capacity. Maybe they can dick around with submarines and cause losses but the submarines are nuclear priority and very little to spare on far off escapades. And they might be lost.

No oil the UK majors from the North sea did a lot of exploration after the war. The rock formations are the wrong age (too old), similar to Australia. There is gas where the oil used to be, but that is marginal not an easy money prospect. If oil was found production would have started by the 1980s.

Also some information about the rock at the bottom. tl;dr there are problems. Also its small 50,000 bbl/day is equivalent to the Seagull field which was only recently developed in 2023 Seagull is North Sea and the North Sea as a whole is nearing end of production so Seagull will be one of the last. Lol no.
In 1982 the Islands were initially defended by around 70 marines until the UK moved troops halfway around the world.
Today, it has a permanent military personnel of around 1500, a handful of Tyhpoons (now with dedicated refuling craft), and island based missiles systems.
UK would send more forces, and further Typhoons would arrive in a day or so.

Pay no heed to the Argie PM.

That's what makes the Argentine fixation on the islands look so strange. The Russians, while retarded niggers, can make a comparatively convincing-looking case for why Ukraine "belongs with" them due to a history of running it, even if you don't think they deserve to have it (anymore). Argentina sort of just decided "That's ours, because."
What would their argument even be for their claim overruling Brazil's if Brazil (equally) arbitrarily decided one day "Actually, WE should have them"?

To what? Argentina has only 3 destroyers. They are equipped with MF sonar that will be 50 years old before the turn of the decade. They are supported by 6 corvettes and 6 patrol vessels. The entire country does not own operate a single low or very low frequency sonar and the most optimistic detection ranges for the sonars they do have against a noisy target are shorter than the range of torpedoes.

The name of their destroyer class says everything you need to know about third world navies.

Falklands history is fun and complicated. It looked roughly like this.
1. French guy lands on the island.
2. British guy lands on other island. For a while they are not even aware of each other.
3. France has settlement on one island Britbongs on the other.
4. France gives their island to the Spanish because of reasons.
5. Britbogs say nuh uh all islands are ours and almost go to war with Spain. But don't in the end.
6. In 1774 British are like, fuck this there's nothing here, let's leave for now. But they literally leave behind sign saying "Oi, dis ours don't touch".
7. Spain sat on the islands until 1811 then also decided it's not worth any time.
8. There's lot of fuckery happening about, even Germans show up for a moment.
9. United Provinces of the RĂo de la Plata declare independence from Spain, and lay claim to all their holdings. Including islands.
10. Brits are like fuck no, it's all ours. Saint Luis is settled. United Provinces are now Argentina and are expelled.
11. Then nothing much happens for 100 years but Argies come back and Falklands War happens.

There is the issue that unless you are openly and loudly racist, specifically white nationalist in the US or your particular brand of nationalist in Europe, you can't address the real problem. Blacks cost the US a trillion bucks a year in entitlements. Spics cost the US a trillion bucks a year in entitlments. Jews are a net loss without even accounting for the bullshit they pull domestically or via Israel. The shitskins in Europe are an even bigger loss per capita according to the limited data we can get from European governments which try to obfuscate the issue at every opportunity. If you want to afford real militaries or even have the US pay for yours the only option is to be white supremacist and just kick out all the scum, or kill them, or anything other than what is currently being done.

That of course is unacceptable to all the parties involved including Trump. Even the cuckservatives who want a military exist almost solely as a rearguard action against racial nationalism. And the leftists honestly and openly advocate national suicide for one reason or another, mostly weird moralist racial masochism.

It's going to come down to civil war, kill all the non-whites and the problems vanish instantly and that has become so clear that nobody can deny it anymore.

Yes, it's not the 1980s anymore. Argentina isn't any more militarily capable than they were back then, but Great Britain is noticeable less competent, and I don't think they even have any major ships anymore. No way the UK could project power to the falklands

>Two countries with no money for armed forces, having a war over an island.
>One country is geographically closer
>One country can draw a longer line of credit.
It would be a shitshow.
It would also either make or break Britain as an international power. The outcome of Britain's effort to field a naval force and successfully beat Argentina back and retake the island would determine wether it would have a presence at all in military affairs going forward.
We might end up becoming a kind of Switzerland.
I personally don't think we could do it, not because the Argies are particularly formidable, but because fielding a naval fleet and deploying them across the world to battle another Navy is something we don't have the money or manpower (or lets face it, ships for). but maybe it's one of those moments in history where the crisis you can't handle turns you into a power that can handle it.

I'm sorry, as much as I support Milei... few things are as retarded as Argentina's claim on Falkland islands. Those islands have belonged to British since before Argentina even existed. The island aren't even that close to Argentina ffs, they look close on the map but it's more than just a long swim. It's not abnormal for countries to have territory that's not adjacent to their main territory. And perhaps the most important thing... people live there, nigga. They have lived there for generations.

To be fair to Milei, his move is not so much about the islands, but the surrounding area being used for oil extraction. He's making a move to not allow Sea Lion Project roam freely around Argentinian waters just to take the oil that was found there. That's a bit more defensible than taking the islands.
