How is it braindead? It's the exact same position that Bobby Fischer had on modern chess, which is why he created Chess960. Current chess players aren't really playing anything, they're just autists plugging sequences into chess engines and then remembering them.
>>
>>542083020
the difference between Bobby Fischer is that when Bobby thinks something could be more fun, he improves on it. Elon "solves" it, i.e. destroys it so nobody else can have fun playing it because he's retarded autist that hates fun.

Elon is right. It's a 2D grid. It's not complex. Not saying I'm good at it, just saying it's trivial for a computer. We've had chess algorithms forever. Ai invented a strategy in GO that no human player in up to 4000 years thought of. Go is played on a 19x19 grid with far more possible positions that chess. I would venture to say chess already IS a solved problem.

One source, Elon Musk, arrived at the same conclusion as another source, Bobby Fischer.
A source is where something comes from. The thing in this point is an opinion. A source does not need to be an accurate, relevant, educated, or multi-person setup.

>The point is Elon has the same stance on Chess as Bobby Fischer for the same reason however people seem to think that one is more correct than the other despite them being the same thing from two different sources.
yeah but they chose to go on about it in different ways
Bobby basically added randomization to the game where people just play random setups of pieces that's mirrored for opponent to keep the game fair
Elon wants it "solved", probably means generating a strategy that wins every time. Why does he want to do that, do people playing chess bother him that much? Isn't he busiest man alive, why is trying to solve things that don't really need to be solved?

Are you implying that the number of optimal moves is something you can just memorize? The only people that are booked up 20 moves deep into every opening are at the absolute highest level of the game.

The retards in this thread who are discounting the game entirely because "people memorize" have no idea what they're talking about. You're not going to run into anyone that booked up as a hobbyist. And part of the meta is pulling people out of their memorization anyway.

>the more I watch Musk talk the more I realize he actually hates having fun and just wants to be seen having it
You're very close to the truth there I think, though I'd refine it slightly.

He can't have fun, not genuinely. He's too neurotic, to self-obsessed and obsessed with how he's seen by others. He can't chill and enjoy stuff for its own sake, it has to be about image and getting people to admire him because he's become hooked on being the big tech guy and he desperately wants people to talk about him like he's Bill Gates, Steve Jobs etc. He doesn't get quite the same praise as they did because he's so obnoxious all the time.

He wants to be happy though, he can see people like Richard Branson who clearly knows how to have fun and enjoy himself, he sees pics of the Obama vacation where the family is sitting around laughing and wants that for himself but it can't be bought.
I'm sure that's how he ended up hooked on Ketamine, just trying to silence those voices enough to chill out and enjoy the moment but it only lasts as long as the drugs do.

His performative "fun" is him aping what other rich people do, even Zuckerberg is better at aping regular human fun than Musk is and Zuckerberg is mining Facebook posts for the most average but aspirational way for men his age to enjoy life and have friends, then has his recreation director spin up a meat smoking getup or arrange for a hydroboarding holiday.

He isn't
He asserts Chess is "simple" and it is a game that can be truly solved.
It might be fairly complicated for a person, but a computer might eventually 'solve' all possibly permutations to either guarantee victory, or stalemate, every time. Just like tic-tac-toe.

Whether or not he is correct in such an outcome is another story, but that is fundamentally his assertion. Implication being he would rather play games that (presumably) do not have such an outcomes he believes so obvious.

No but memorization is a huge part of chess. Also it's not just people here, Bobby Fischer made the same complaint. He even invented a famous chess variant that involves mixing up the pieces to keep the game fresh.

It used to be thought that chess was reserved for people with elite backgrounds and high IQ's. During the cold war, chess geniuses were often hyped up to have IQ's of 185.

But the truth is, you don't need a high IQ to be good at chess. In fact the #2 in the world for a wild was an Indian named Vishy Anand, who had an IQ in the 80's. Guys like Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura have turned the game from a black tie affair, into a pugnacious even with personal callouts, insults, "smackdowns", disrespect moments....etc.
In fact it's well known by science at this point that visual memory and reaction time are hindered by certain processes in the brain, and monkeys which don't have those processes excel at those tasks above humans. Humans can even achieve monkey-like visual memory by passing an electric current through part of their brain and shutting it off.

So when it comes to chess, intelligence might even be a hindrance.

But intelligent people are able to adapt to new circumstances much faster. Throw a twist in the game, such as a new piece or new rule, and a smart person will figure out optimum play much quicker. That's why getting so stuck on this one game is harmful, when there's so many infinite number of games or new rulesets yet to be played.

The idea of impressing someone with skill at chess is a bit like a speedrunner impressing you with his skill at mario bros. He has totally wallowed himself into an extremely nicbe avenue rather than gaining general skills that are more widely applicable. The fact that buffoonish observers are impressed is a testament to their own ignorance

>>
>>542082284
But the thing is that great chess doesn't always look for the best move per every instance. Sometimes the immediate best move to play is a mediocre or even bad move where the "best move" in response to that bad move from the other player sets you up for a great move.
You might be making a retarded move on move 4 specifically because you know if you make THAT retarded or "weird" move on move 4, that by move 10, it will have set you up for a win.
That's why chess will never be "solved"
Playing perfect moves 100% of the time will still only give you a 55-60% winrate over say.. 1000 games.

As for your last part about how one should focus on other pursuits, I'd say... it's a hobby? For fun.
>>
>>542082662
No, the computer can only look at the board move by move and calculate the "best" move, and the good computers take into account what your likely response will be and they think multiple moves ahead, but that doesn't mean that a computer can look at a game and calculate who will win 100% of the time based on the configuration of the pieces.

Additionally it should be known that chess.com is a very corrupt organization. Their website offers grandmasters clemency for cheating, because they count on those guys bringing attention to their site. They have partnered themselves with Magnus Carlsen's company and worked to promote him.

There is a huge scandal since top player Hikaru Nakamura is a massive raging asshole who totally abuses his position in the chess community. He is connected his manager, Chessbae, is a woman who had tons of power at reddit, twitch, and chess.com, and would immediately ban any opponents Hikaru didn't like across all platforms, effectively destroying their careers. He did this to numerous people, meanwhile his own conduct is totally crazy, being angry, pugnacious, disrespectful, making nasty comments when he loses.

Chess.com has a free competitor called lichess. The only thing chess.com offers is superior cheat detection (in reality nobody can detct it if you're smart about it), and famous grandmasters lending theirnface and name to promoting them. They are a corrupt grifting organization that has assumed blatant authority in the chess world.

Nobody wrote that. It must be fake or there would be numbers, non tiny numbers which would prove the words to be very silly.
Its fake it must be?
There are vast, almost infinite (but not, obviously i’m being rhetorical, just humongous beyond belief) games of chess that are possible.
Nobody EVER said all moves possible or combinations of moves are sensible in every game or in any game. Only a childish buffoon would pretend that this was ever implied by anybody in a silly attempt at intellectual fraud and one-upmanship.
But the number of LEGIT moves possible is objectively not “tiny”, even limiting it to legit moves leaves the numbers at “staggeringly vast”.
When people talk about such things its like that trick proposition where you start with 1 penny and double the amount every day, leaving you the richest person in the world in very short order. It takes just 27 days to cross the £1,000,000 threshold in this manner.
It’s just a rhetorical whimsy.
The legit combination of chess moves (not “all moves”) are similar to the doubling penny proposition and the number is objectively “vast” not “tiny”.
Post numbers or kys Elong you Husk. .
Same with ordinary playing card decks. The combinations possible on any shuffle become vast apparently.
>duh, everyone who’s playing chest is a stoopid heed and I am the worlds greatest gamer so i should know. Ask my wig it’ll tell you.
>Let more poojeets into your country now plees.
What an asshole avenue of chatting shit to go down.
Numbers, post numbers now you thatch topped pillock. Or just be quiet. Ffs. Embarrassing yourself yet again.

It's no use talking ideas with midwits. I hope smart anons will remember this, a simple lesson that could have save me many months, maybe a year of wasted effort

I like how you try to argue with me without addressing any of my arguments. Here, I will make this much simpler for you since I'm seeing you're struggling
1. Elon has probably biggest reach on X. In his place, would you talk about X happening if you don't want X to happen?
2. Do you really think Elon is the type of guy that tweets about things he has no interest in or he's neutral about?
>>
>>542089981
>without addressing any of my arguments
you literally don't have any arguments
>>
>>542087436
>why he believes he needs to "fix" it
He's not good at it and seethes
Classic resentful nerd mindset, with all these "tech geniuses" just ask what would a cartoonishy stereotypical nerd be like if given a billion dollars and you'll be right like every time
>>
>>542090422
my argument is that Elon isn't making "just a prediction", he's wishing for chess game to be solved
anyone with half a brain knows that you just don't predict things on X, you actively influence the outcome and the bigger the reach the bigger the influence you have on matter. Self-fulfilling prophecy has been studied and proven to have real effects.
And influencing things this way was probably one of prime reasons why Elon bought X.
>>
>>542088821
How much would it reduce complexity, if you added the extended check rule? Instead of prohibiting moves that keep the king in check, make it illegal to make a move that allows to force a checkmate in less that 6 ply. It should be easy for computers, but reduce the overal complexity.
>>
>>542090638
>he's wishing for chess game to be solved
and why do you seethe about it so much?
"i think this guy thinks that way" is not an argument btw
>>
>>542090739
>and why do you seethe about it so much?
because it presents that a richest man in the world is a manchild midwit redditor, going around looking for things to be fixed that don't really need fixing
I've developed an allergy over the decades in work and life in general to such behavior of changing things just for the sake of it. It usually if not always is done only to soothe the ego of one doing/proposing the change.
>>
>>542089981
>would you talk about X happening if you don't want X to happen
Ehm, yes, why not? That's what talking ideas is all about
It's just amazing to me how you're literally incapable of understanding this. You simply lack the capacity. I have to conclude the distance between you and me is roughly the distance between you and any other mammal

That's not what solved means, solved means you can determine which side will win from any position with perfect play which is currently impossible and probably always will be.

If you could store an entire chess game on every atom in the universe, then somehow connect all those atoms into a giant storage device it still would not have enough capacity to store a complete solution to chess. I am not exaggerating, see: Shannon number

Are there any chess grandmasters who are actually intellectually gifted? All I see is people lauding chess players as if they’re these really smart people but as afaik none of well known players are good at anything but chess. I might be wrong, don’t follow them like some people do.

Has Elon actually admitted he was wrong about something/anything, ever?

Not even talking about this chess stuff which is obviously stupid, but just anything on any even half-way meaningful issue?
>>
>>542082284
He's right though.
Chess is a shit game.
Among midwits is has a reputation as a game of deep strategy. Two commanders trying to outwit each other on the field of battle.

In reality it's nothing more than memorization exercise.
You "get good" at chess by simply memorizing a bunch of "correct" moves from a book of "games" of chess.
The player who can remember the most corrrrect moves wins. Strategy and wit are unnecessary.

"you'll love never having a job outside of ditch digging!" "Optimus robots now dig ditches faster than humans, woops now umm I guess enjoy how well our robots suck your dick all day and you eat our free food paste and you can also watch endless AI anime!"

Why can't AI just be about scientific advancement and having fun? Why does it have to "solve chess" shut the fuck up.
