Food scarcity is going to kill millions in the coming years and the increase in food costs are going to wreak havoc on the quality of life of billions (including first world nations).

The price of wheat alone has increased dramatically since the start of the war in Ukraine and international trade logistics have gotten significantly less stable since the war in Iran began. Western governments are destroying their agricultural industries to prop up AI infrastructure which also threatens just about the whole job market, meaning the average person will have less income AND higher food costs.

If you aren't planting food crops (especially perennials), raising animals and buying firearms with which to defend them both (and hunt), you're going to be at an extreme disadvantage.

Every single calorie you grow for yourself relieves pressure on not just you, but society as a whole.

Be smart and plant some trees/bushes/vines TODAY.

Nothing ever happens.

Sadly the only thing I tried to grow this year that survived the birds and my neighbors 4 legged niggers was the small yaupon holly that I'm growing in a windowsill until it's big enough to plant outside.
>>
>>542096675
I would strongly recommend netting to deal with the birds and 4 legged critters. Cameras and the aforementioned guns for the 2 legged pests.

Nuh uh, you don't get to change your goalposts. You're not talking about improving quality of life, you're talking about total societal collapse with nigger raider parties that need to be fought off with guns from your survival bunker.
>>
>>542097190
Basically all farmers own guns, retard. Killing pests is a normal part of agriculture.

I didn't say total societal collapse. I said lots of people are going to starve and the rest are going to be spending a lot more of their wealth on food than they currently do.

You getting offended that you could easily do something to reduce the effects of this on both your family and society writ large shows that you're a piece of shit. You would rather wait until it's too late to do anything and then act like it justified your defeatist beliefs.

A hazelnut tree costs 20 bucks. You need two of them for pollination, so total cost 40 bucks and about an hour of your time to plant them. They take about 4 years to mature, after which they will produce an insane amount of food for decades (up to a century). A hazelnut tree provides enough calories for 1/12th of the year for one person, so literally 1/6th of your total food costs with just 40 dollars spent now. They will more than pay for themselves after ONE harvest.
>>
Even at the CURRENT price of hazelnuts, 40 dollars would only get you UNDER 6 lbs of hazelnuts.
6 lbs of hazelnuts = ~17k Calories or the equivalent of under 7 days of Calories (assuming 2500 Cal/day diet). Growing them yourself is literally over 4 times more cost-effective than buying them at CURRENT prices before the worst of the food inflation occurs.
>>
>>542096438
>and buying firearms with which to defend
You mean like how Americans have the right to bear arms supposedly to stop things from getting this bad?
>>
Cherry trees cost ~40 bucks each and can easily produce 50+ pounds of fruit in ONE season (in some cases HUNDREDS of pounds).
Again, at CURRENT prices, 40 dollars would net you less than 10 pounds of fruit.

Squirrel traps to go along with them and the three sisters method for beans corn and squash. Will work even in Wisconsin climates.

Tons of food that can be dried out and used long term and fresh meat from the Hazelnut eating squirrels (fat so you won't get rabbit starvation either way).

Perfect deal. Another case where Canadians are smarter than Americans thinking muh potaters maters and deeerer.

You only make anti-gun people look more ridiculous and I'm happy for it.

It literally doesn't. It hinges on people being able to fight a tyrannical government and fighting a civil war would only exacerbate the food costs, so your post doesn't even qualify as an attempt at a rebuttal. You just cry impotently that other people own guns.

Sarcastic comment to claim the 2nd amendment was failing to prevent the situation from getting this bad when controlling market prices isn't within the purview of the 2nd amendment.

They're sold out for the season, not sure if they ship to Canada, but Burgerbros should look into Mark Shepard's ag principles if they have a few acres and some cash to put into tree crops. Dude's got a lot of keynote speeches on youtube. If you post anything to do with ag and tag him on socials, there's a halfway decent chance Shepard will follow you and behave like the boomer he is.
https://whitetailhillchestnuts.com/
Meant mainly for deer fodder crops, but most trees are commercially viable crops in some regions like Shepard's ag model, and attract deer. Win/win.
>there are many other sites, those were just top of my list for checking because they sell bulk and have a lot of learning resources.

I'm not above digging up wild apple tree saplings from the side of the county road out here. I don't really care about it being a commercial type, I want cider apples and crabapples, and want to select for locally adapted disease resistant varieties.

My main challenges are very dry summers, and heavy clay soil. USDA moves their hardiness zone willy nilly every couple years, yet like clockwork, as if the whole weather thing is cyclical and fairly stable, after a heap of mild winters, we tend to get an Arctic apocalypse that wipes out more tender perennials. Tilling in a strip of manure along the contour of the slope, then applying generous mulch and planting trees gives them the best chance, but I do have to water them the first year old two. I'm experimenting with adding some grit to improve soil structure.

>>
>>542105409
>You pretended the entire thread that you had made this grand point
I simply said that I made a point that you didn't understand, nothing about it being grand but I guess it may feel that way when it took you 2 hours to even remotely start grasping it.
>and then it turned out to be retarded, contradictory bullshit
Contradictory in what way? You literally said that getting involved in wars makes food more expensive and I pointed out that getting involved in jewish wars makes food more expensive so the 2nd amendment does, in fact, have something to do with food prices. There's no contradiction.

This is what happens when you deflect and move the goalposts so much, you lose track of what was said and what the conversation was about to begin with.
>>
>>542105730
I picked up a cultivar that is self-fertile specifically to avoid that situation.

It doesn't actually need to be a cherry tree to pollinate it, though. It could be another prunus like a plum, apricot or something. There are lots of cool hybrids out there. Cherry plums (AKA "chums") are fucking delicious.
>>
>>542105856
Americans fighting a civil war would neither prevent Russia from invading Ukraine, nor would it lower prices of foods produced in the US.

You are so thoroughly incapable of making a point it's actually astonishing.
>>
>>542105553
All roughly 30,000 North American early commercialized eating apple varieties were accidental cross-pollination successes from someone's cider orchard that were grafted and sold as eating apples. The whole Johnny Appleseed tale is much more interesting in its historical context than the children's nursery rhyme version.
These days, we see what, 8-12 varieties regularly at the store, all optimized for storage, shipping, and being aesthetically pleasing in a supermarket display for urban plebs who don't know what a real apple should taste like.
https://www.treesofantiquity.com/collections/apple-trees
You can still find vendors that keep older varieties alive. I'm trying to figure out how to get my former home's non-farmer owner to send me scionwood of the antique apple tree varieties that grew outside our house so I can graft some. Maybe I can make a road trip eventually, and stop by with a gift and sneak around the house with some pruning shears.
>>
>>542105978
>nor would it lower prices of foods produced in the US
Not an argument.
Remember when you said fighting wars increases food costs? USA is now in a war for jews, which has increased food costs.

Huh, talk about contradictions.
>>
>>542096438
Ukraine should surrender and stop holding the world hostage then.
>>
>>542106061
War is going to fuck over logistics no matter whether Americans do or don't fight a civil war. If they did, China would invade Taiwan the exact same day it kicked off and then trans-oceanic shipping gets fucked over anyway.

You're legitimately fucking retarded.
>>
>>542106169
>War is going to fuck over logistics no matter whether Americans do or don't fight a civil war.
Another non-argument. American's involvement in the war has very obviously affected food price that was otherwise not affected by that same retarded war when they were not actively involved.

Again, talk about contradictions.
>>
>>542106292
Starting a civil war would trigger even more wars, you imbecile.
"Let's stabilize the situation by making it even LESS stable! That'll bring costs down! I'm too lazy and retarded to put some grape vines in the ground!"
>>
>>542105902
If you have neighbors with cherries, you could graft pollinator varieties onto the same tree. Heck, if a city park has cherry trees, I might go "oops, broke a branch" and haul it home.

I usually buy trees in clusters of 3, if a website like trees.com recommends plants that pollinate each other. It's a little more work, but I'm not growing fruit or nuts for sale, mainly just to feed the family, and supplement hay feed for animals, so I can reduce my dependence on outside inputs.

When you plant an orchard on a small acreage, you want to space trees out enough where they don't shade out the ground at their mature size. If you're running livestock and keep bees, the spacing matching your swather for cutting winter hay is worth consideration. Poultry or livestock will eat early windfalls that are usually the most maggot-infested, if you have apple maggots, which reduces your need for strong pesticide application. A big commercial orchard does not have the capacity to manage their fields with such care, us small guys do.

Side note, which proves we're still on topic for /pol/. The United States Department of Agriculture keeps sending me their farm census paperwork. There are no repercussions for not turning them in, but it is supposed to be mandatory. They want me to report enough info where if there ever is civil unrest in the United States, the government will know who has what, and how much of it.
During covid, I heard of some farmers who were keeping closed herds of rare breeds of cattle had them bought out by military entities for many times their estimated financial worth. It was suspicious as fuck. So those USDA surveys go right in the trash.
>"What survey? Oh I never received them, are you sure you have the address right?"

>>542106608
>Lets let jews run our government in their forever wars, it's better than getting rid of jew with our God-given 2nd amendment and then going on their own way free of jewish control
Hmmmm... you sure sound very pro jewish control of USA.
Weird that you are seemingly perfectly okay with fighting kike wars even though you were arguing that wars are bad for food. Curious, really.
Surely the endless pilpuling is just a cohencidence, too.
>>
>>542106617
Some plant nurseries even sell trees that already have 3-4 varieties already grafted onto them. They cost a premium, but if you're really low on space and inexperienced when it comes to grafting, it can be worthwhile.

I personally don't like grafting, but that's a personal hang-up on my part. I don't like doing the heavy pruning a lot of people do, either. I try to let them grow more or less how they wish.
>>
>>542106763
I specifically said that these wars are making things worse. I'm just smart enough to understand what a second order effect is and not just instantly hit the big red button that triggers MAD.

Many fruiting plants don't produce annually, unless you prune them. Apples for example in the wild only produce a good crop roughly every 3 years. If you have a lot of land, it doesn't matter, if you're a backyard farmer, you'll want to consider the pros and cons. Pruning encourages them to put out a decent crop annually.
Some deciduous tree species will "coppice" if pruned in the winter, meaning you cut them down, and they will grow new branches from the root stump and produce a lot more biomass in a short amount of time. The oldest living trees in England are the tree roots of old coppiced trrees.
Coppiced wood can be used for fuel, fencing, bean poles, building materials, and animal fodder, depending on the age, size, and type of new growth. Some people will plant trees as live fenceposts, and cut them above animal reach, and they put out new growth. If it's a species of tree your animals can eat, you can harvest the new growth and grow it as "tree hay". The bark on trees contains minerals absent in grass. This is called "pollarding". Same concept.
If planted in rows, and pleached and woven together, these same tree species form live fencing called "hedgerows".

>I typed out HAHAHAHA a bunch, that'll definitely convince people that I'm laughing and not at all angry!

When people get really flustered, they lose the ability to create rational thoughts and type them out coherently.

The US will do perfectly fine you slant eyes bug man subhuman
>>

You say that like food inflation in the US hasn't been horrific in the past few years.
Quality has gone down, portion sizes are smaller and prices way up.

>a bunch
You mean once.
I don't need to convince people of anything, they will see your 3 hours of posts just to end up unknowingly agree that I'm right. Why would I be mad about anything after
>The men who fought
HAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAH
They will also see that you quickly stopped moving the goalposts or even attempting to circle back to the conversation once you internally accepted your own defeat.
>>
>>542110221
You're so desperate for a win you decided to make up an alternate reality in which I claimed that the Americans haven't fought a revolution. You're incapable of understanding the differences in the circumstances between 1776 and 2026 and act as if starting a civil war is always going to make the situation better, even when it would dramatically worsen an already existing crisis. I do not agree with you and you are physically incapable of any argument against a person who isn't made of old clothing stuffed with straw.
>>
>>542110478

MEN

FOUGHT
>>
>>542110533
Stating that Americans fought a civil war before doesn't contradict anything I've said. You're legitimately pathetic.

THE MEN WHO FOUGHT
>>
>>542110667
There's that total lack of coherence from being butthurt that we talked about earlier. I never claimed they didn't fight, so acting like it's a gotcha is hilariously dumb.

War is LE BAD for food costs dude! Don't fight a civial war to liberate yourself like the AMERICAN REVOLUTION FARMERS did!
>>
>>542111135
Again, incapable of backing up what you say, calling it asinine that you should have to and declaring yourself victorious, except this time you also post an imagine of someone being angry to "prove" how not angry you are. Bonus points for half the post being in all caps. Definitely not fuming, lmao

That post continues to not contradict anything I said, but does show that you share none of their virtues.
>>
>>542111843
Where did I sneer at the idea of planting my own food? Provide proof of that claim.
>>
>>542112020
I thought you said it was asinine to have to back up an argument, lol.
>>
>>542112130
And just like that, concession accepted.
>>
>>542112162
If it's asinine for you to post a link to where I supposedly contradicted myself, I'm not wasting my time scrolling back up for you. So, as you asked me before: What are you gonna do about it? Huff and puff some more about how totally not angry you are?
>>
>>542112349
If it isn't asinine why aren't you providing one?
Uh oh.
>>
>>542112411
You haven't argued in good faith at any point in the thread. If you wanted me to actually give a shit, you should've been less disingenuous. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Go touch some grass, retard.
>>
>>542112513
Yes I have.
Feel free to prove me wrong by fulfilling my asinine request of showing me not arguing in good faith. I'll wait.

Seems like I was right in not engaging with your asinine autistic requests after all. Guess you lost at your own game too lol.
>>
>>542112690
You refused to back up your arguments and now take great offense when others treat you with even a modicum of the same attitude. Not only are you incapable of debating, you have also proven yourself incapable of any introspection even when it is shoved forcefully into your face.
>>
>>542112826
>no proof of anything
*Yawn* Sorry, I only engage when my retarded and autistic asinine requests get fulfilled.
You won't do that? So dishonest, you clearly don't want to have a real conversation or something. Also you are speaking all calm and without images in an imageboard just to show how totally not mad you are lol caught!

How am I doing so far? Not childish and retarded enough yet to be at your exact level?
>>
>>542113020
Oh yeah, that's totally my bad for you being a disingenuous retard the whole thread. I'll definitely go ahead and do all the things you went out of your way to claim as unnecessary and asinine. You definitely didn't set the tone for how you are treated by others and should be applauded for your stunning bravery with confronting the consequences of your own actions.
>>
>>542113331
>you being a disingenuous retard
Go ahead and fulfill my asinine request of proving this true. Until then, you are clearly the disingenuous one.
I don't make the rules!

What's up with these two bots arguing with eachother
>>
>>542113398
Right after you post the contradiction you were raving about half the thread, dipshit.

Last night's conversation was really pleasant, and today's post is just a total waste of time. Shame, I like talking about farming. I'll have to hang up the keyboard and go out and keep winterizing the sheep shelter. Winter is coming.

all the anons who think they are being helpful ITT dont understand the main problem is nobody owns land. majority of peasants have no land to plant trees and shit on. if you are lucky you have space for a few pots that you can put tomatoes in but for the most part land is prohibitively expensive for the average peasant

This fruit is called a medlar. It is eaten when so ripe they look almost rotten. The taste is like apple pie filling.

The nickname is dog's ass fruit.

We voted for this. We voted to not be allowed to grow our own food, surrender food security to technocrat globalists who hate us and want to genocide us, and then let in several invading armies who also hate while people while manufacturing a global food crisis.

We want to be exterminated
