I live in medium-sized European capital, and it’s OK. Most of the time it’s just people commuting to work, and while I would be lying if I said that there are never disruptive drunks or loud Jeets there, it’s still rare enough that I’d rather live with it than try to hunt for parking spaces in a very crowded city district.But sure, I can imagine how horrible they must be in cities with major druggie problems, and especially in US, where almost everything is built around the idea of everyone always using their own cars for transit, no matter how short the distance, because it means that there are less ”normal” people in public transport then.

I live in nyc and it completely erases the need for a car. In fact its easier to not have a car in nyc than to have one.
apart from very occasional massive delays it works pretty well in my country. I use the train every day to work. When the line wasn't running because of maintenance and I had to use a replacement bus service it took 3 to 4 times as long because the road was fully clogged up during rush hour.

Every trip takes 2x as long as it would in a car. You need to watch your shit constantly or it gets stolen. Positives are it is many times cheaper, you will save maybe even 1k per year if you do public transport to work instead of driving. You can also be slightly drunk.
