I work at a large vehicle part manufacturer in an IT role so I can change companies easily but internally between tariffs, inflation and BYD the 5 year forecast is not looking too good. Tariffs are short term whatever, just hold out long enough for the tariffs to be deemed illegal in court and get a refund because we track the cost. Inflation is kind of bad because price of new cars getting too high. But BYD would kneecap the industry when normies question why buy a 4 year used car for 40k when a brand new BYD car cost 35k.

EV all are in the battery life and replacement cost. If batteries only last 4 years but cost $500 to replace then I might have to buy one due to how much cheaper it would be. A 6 year used EV is nearly worthless with US market. Battery cost, new batteries increased ranges, etc. If you can get a cheaper vehicle overall then this issue isn't nearly as bad. Especially if they create some program to scrap the old vehicles to reuse to make new but I don't think we are that resource starved yet.
