I live in a tiny midwest town with a ton of old brick buildings like this sitting abandoned on main street. You can buy one for less than the price of a used car, but redoing the plumbing, electrical, removing asbestos etc, would cost more than just knocking it down.

It's also a former duplex set up so yet another thing to work around. Everything about it is small. The main dinning room is smaller than a modern home's master bed room. Why would you buy that house for just under 90k and then dump 150k into it vs just buying a 200k house in the first place? It's not going to be able to sell for more any ways in that shitty location. there is a reason homes in middle no where smaller towns are filthy cheap. Going to go out there, live in your 90k home that's all bombed out and work at a local walmart? These sort of cheap places aren't any sort of answer to wtf we are are going to do about housing everywhere for average workers.
