Simultaneously there were several trillion dollars of money creation, and presumably the redefinition of the M2 was a fraudulent attempt to hide that.At the same time the Fed also got rid of bank reserve requirements, which was a massive thing that nobody reported on. There are still no reserve requirements, which means banks can lend out money (which is created from thin air by the bank) without having anything in reserve.
