An actual armored bunker is really only a thing for being in the blast radius of a nuke or an asteroid. The living space big enough for yourself and your family is only half of the problem. The warehouse of shit you would need to actually ride out the aftermath of the event itself is a much bigger problem. The solution only the government has is basically having an old mine of some sort or making your own and then stocking it to the rafters with supplies and equipment. It would require preparing for somethings gonna happen being your lifestyle for years for it to even make sense. For surviving 99% percent of disasters you need a deep tornado shelter with a hardened entry away from most probable ground zero's and an underground garage with enough to bug out of the hot zone as soon as the immediately lethal fallout has passed.
