Plane was in approach mode and he hit the Take Off / Go Around button for some reason. This caused the plane to accelerate and because of somatic gravity illusion he thought the plane was climbing. Which was wild because there's a pretty sizeable community of them in my city. He joined our flying club and was kicked out within a year because he flattened one tire by landing with the brakes fully applied. While doing practice approaches at our city's major airport, he was cleared to land on 17L, but landed on 17R instead. The FAA was not terribly happy with him for that. But what got him removed from the club was the time he deployed the flaps while going about 30 knots too fast. He was way outside the white arc and just dumped them in. The one on the left wing very nearly separated from the aircraft. He was encouraged to find a hobby that was more in line with his skills and competence. And he did not get his buy-in money back since it barely covered the cost of the repair.Don't get me wrong, I've made some dumb mistakes in my flying life. But never that many. And mine were spread out over 20 years. Not within 8 months.
