I have never understood why when in the past a country conquered land from other country they didn't change the names of the cities, towns and land in general. I guess it was to don't bother the local population too much changing the names of their towns that they had used since many generations ago but they could have done it slowly and after some generations when the cultural change was done. Maybe this example doesn't apply right now because there are a lot of spanish speaking immigrants in the city but, what is the point of people living in San Francisco for example having a city with a spanish name when they have been speaking english and having an anglosaxon culture for many generations?
