The two entities whose consent you forgot to ask are car companies number one, they make more money offering fewer options and they're in a cartel with each other so nobody breaks rank, and number two the greater humanity beyond what an individual wants. Cars are gradually becoming hyper regulated slop because at the end of the day, driving in America is a way to span long distances and move through a place you don't want to be, in order to reach one you do. Efforts to make it a joyful experience end up counterproductive because you see thousands of other cars on the road. The more flamboyant they are, the more distracting and mentally taxing it is to look at them. >>542196433Others have already said it but it comes down to resale value. If you want proof of how much the auto market has changed over the decades in this regard then just look at new car sales over time. There are lots of ups and downs due to economic cycles but new car sales essentially have not grown in the last 20 years and are only marginally higher than the 80s. Meanwhile the US population has grown by almost 50% since 1985. Over 100 million more people. And yet we they are buying the same number of new cars. This means people are keeping their cars longer and buying used more often. In the 1970s the only people you would see in a car more than 4 years old were high school kids and completely broke losers. Even a lot of high school kids were in new cars. This meant the used market was tiny and cars had negligible resale value. If you're not dependent on selling your current car in order to buy your next car then you don't need to worry about getting a colour that is easy to sell. You can just get whatever colour you like.

The overwhelming majority of new cars are bought by women. And you would think that claim is bullshit because you probably know more men driving than women, but those simps buy cars to impress women or they buy a certain care to "please the wife". Women are a hivemind, so it's natural for them to pick cars from three safe colors because it's less risky for their social standing than buying a yellow car.

>>542210284The brains behind this concept used trash bin worthless fabric offcuts combined from making other club jersey designs into single designed unique apparel worth $100s each. No two jerseys were ever made the same and they became collectable, like swatch watches that were popular at the time.>In the 1980s, the mismatched Canterbury jerseys made from multiple factory fabric offcuts were officially known as "Uglies".>The concept was born a decade earlier when Canterbury of New Zealand was producing so much team gear that factories accumulated mountains of leftover fabric remnants. To cut down on waste, they randomly stitched the various multi-coloured patchwork panels together to create heavy-duty practice jerseys using the Harlequins team jersey panel design>Because no two shirts were identical, players and fans lovingly dubbed them "Uglies, and became a name brand >By the 1980s and early 1990s, they had evolved from basic football training wear into a massive mainstream streetwear fashion trend worldwide.

>>542206844I mean there definitely has been a trend in preference towards greyscale colours in the past 20 years but even putting that aside you can look at the colour preferences in 1996 and it's obvious that if you care about reselling the car you wouldn't pick a non greyscale colour. The only colour with any popularity is red but someone who is keen on say a grey car is more likely to be fine with black or silver or white but will ignore and red listings. And I don't know if you've ever bought a used car but people do care about colour. It's not like there is only a handful of 7 year old Camrys on the market. There would be hundreds available within a 100km radius of most people. You gotta filter through all those listings and excluding a colour like red cause you're just not that into it is an easy way of narrowing the list down.

>>542196803Funny thing about that is there was a study done by JD Power & Associates a few years back that showed colorful cars sold faster and for a higher price on the used car market. They believed this was because the color made them stand out in listings, which are just page after page after page of the same old dull vehicles. People who purchased dull looking cars when resale in mind ended up playing themselves.
