What was /pol/ like in 1999? What kind of political issues were actually debating back then, in the pre-Trump, pre-Obama, pre-Bush Jr., pre-Euro currency, pre-Trudeau, pre-9/11, pre-rise-of-China etc. era?
there wasn't really a open public square like there is today. discussion i assume had to take place on a local level and was likely only between heavily committed people rather than the armchair commentary that we do. in 1999 internet 1.0 was just teenagers in chat rooms and and some guy posting a picture of his dog on his geocities website.
>>542199012Slashdot went online in 1997. Stormfront in 1995. Yahoo! Clubs (big message board collection) in 1998. I'm sure there were lots of others.
>>542199012you're an idiot. usenet was full of 4chan style schizo posting about jews and zog and stormfront was around in the 90s
4chan was crazy in '99, Moot was selling crack.
>>5421988761999 was george bush running for president i think and being a retard, so watching bush v gore debates i think. Or that was a bit after.
>>542198876>it was amazing >moot would do a daily q&a and at the end he'd post some kind of crazy time stamp >one time I remember it was just him getting his butthole waxed
The Battle in Seattle (real leftists protesting the WTO)Naomi Klein organizing anti-corporate rallies Canvassing votes for Ralph Nader's Presidential run.Tree sits in old-growth redwood forests in California (Julia Butterfly Hill)Those were the days!
>>542198876The same issues, the jews. Just fewer noticers
>>542198876Did she ever get to have those 3 kids she wanted?
>>542199102I still go to Slashdot sometimes purely out of habit. There's almost never anything interesting or insightful
>>542199355Two boys
>>542198876Kinda the same here.Taxes and Economy. The greens pushed for quitting nuclear but they were see as hippies that read fates from crystal balls, back then when people were drunk talking about elections one would burst out that hes gonna vote the greens and everyone would laugh their ass off.Turkish migrants were a topic.Kosovo war.Shockingly similar desu.

>>542199012Something Awful forums went live in 2000. Lowtax had a '99 reg date, not sure about anyone else
>>542199409Nice. Good for her.
>>542198876Mya mogged Topanga so hard
>>542199372>the objective is to make the forum less interesting for the users
>>542199232the Bush-Gore election was in November 2000, with campaigning and debates earlier in 2000.

>>542199012Radio was much bigger back then, and any lunatic could call into a radio show and embarrass the radio host. If the average /pol/ack was born 20 years earlier, we'd either have our own radio shows or be frequent callers of established shows. It's no coincidence that Alex Jones got his start on radio, because that style could only fly on radio instead of tv
>>542198876It was the misc section of every forum. The only thing that changed is the chains eliminated the need to switch between 20 forums for one decent thread. Also it was far less anonymous, even a basic normie could find out who you are. More likely, than now, they would show up in person than swatt or dox.
>>542198876Two jewesses
>>542199110>people knew even back thenBased.
